On Ruutli street situates the modern city sculpture perfect example - the life-size sculpture of Johann Voldemar Jannsen, the father of Estonian journalism. Hard hat in one hand and newspaper in the other he is like stopped for a moment to peek into today's Parnu Postimees office windows!Interesting to know!According to belief touching the page of Perno Postimees in Jannsen's hand will bring you good news this day!Monument created by professor Mati Karmin was ordered by Parnu Postimees for 150th birthday of newspaper Perno Postimees that first came out in 1857.

Statue of a great forefather of estonian culture, literature and journalism, specially connected with Pärnu. Founder of local newspaper Parnu Postimees.

Its a statue with a small plaque; if you are there its worth 5 minutes, but not worth going out of way for

I am now trying to rethink how to rate statues. Should the rating be based on what is worth going out of the way for. Should the rating be based on artistic value? On historical value? If a statue creates an opportunity for a guide to tell a story should that elevate the rating or importance of the status? Does the importance of the story or person affect what a rating of a statue should be? If the same exact status was for a different person would you rate it differently? I realize its probably some mixture of each of these.

To me this status was a nice piece of art to look at for less than 5 minutes on a walk or bike through a street I would have been on anyway. What is my current thought on an excellent statue - something like the Warsaw Uprising monument in Poland or the Freedom monument in Riga (assuming the scaffolding is taken down).

Nice spoy for phototaking
Jul 2017 • Family
This statue done in full size (of an estonian writer i guess) is a nice ingredient on tha walking street in the center of Pärnu. It seems like it was made just for taking photos.

It's only a statue, but it's 5/5

I'm not claiming that you go out of your way for this, but it is a really nice statue (and photo opportunity) and brought this character to my attention in a way that no plaque or history book would do.
