Church (Cathedral, to be exact) of the Holy Mother of God baffles many visitors who are used to typical orthodox churches crowned with familiar „onion“ domes. This one is very different, it is the oldest orthodox church in Lithuania, built in 14th century and still...More

The old and beautiful Church of the Holy Mother of God (14th century), located in the Old Town on the bank of Vilnius, near the Bernardine complex and the bridge to Uzupis, functions as the city’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral. It features a partial Neo-Byzantine design...More

We "popped" in on our way back to the old town from Uzupis, mainly because of its shear size. Interior can best described as cavenous with the usual orthodox religous adornments

Most of the major monuments of Old Vilnius are churches, with this one being no exception. This one is especially large and monumental, with towering walls of white. It's blockish shape makes it look rather like a castle but it does have some rounded domes...More

If you stay at Mabre Residence in Vilnius, you wont miss this church. It is located opposite of this property ( which is on the east side of Vilnius city center)

I loved this part of town. Make sure to get a pic of the church from the bridge towards Uzipus and include the little mermaid. That external image to me was the best part of it.

This church is so different from all the others. As soon as I saw it, I thought it looked just like Bratislava Castle! It's not as impressive inside as some of the others, but still worth a stop.

The church is nice to look at from outside but without an impressive interior. Coming to know that it is an Orthodox church and comparing it to the likes of Alexander Nevski in Sofia for example it becomes even less impressive. However, the church has...More

From the exterior, I assumed that this was an Armenian Orthodox church, but it's not. That's not why I'm giving it the 3-stars though--I'm giving it a "meh" score, because the inside is pretty "meh." It's beautiful, but it's like a lot of other Orthodox...More
