Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This covered stairwell was originally part of the city's defensive system with quick access tot he city armoury. Nowadays, it's used by the public as a shortcut linking the lower part of the city near the main square with the Parish church at the end of the stairs, but also as a shortcut to the castle.

It’s a useful way to reach the castle, but I wouldn’t go out of the way to see it.

Beautiful steps from town square ending just under entrance to super restaurant Fatima. We use the steps all the time.

We walked up to the castle the long way and then after visiting the church, we found this way down...an easier and different route - covered - so good if raining!

When the guide in Executioner's House told me that Parish Stairway served in the past as the fastest way for guild members to get to the castle when it was necessary to defend it I started to be curious and decided to visit it although it was my third walk on the hill that afternoon. And it was a good decision because this wooden covered stairway is really interesting and as a bonus it offers a nice view to the castle through its latticed windows.

Nice experience for those who want to visit the castle, the stairs offers access in a medieval way to the castle.

An interesting way to access the church. As you can see from the picture its an enclosed step-way. Its not too long but if you are elderly and have trouble with steps generally, you may want to take it easy if you are going to attempt it. But there is a handrail if you need it.

Once you reach the top the church itself is very pleasant but the views across the surrounding countryside are more impressive. You can literally see for miles, with all the different coloured fields with various crops, the railway line and other sites.

Built in 1568 as a defencive connection between the town and the Castle. Today it is still the most direct (and driest) method to get to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the huge Forest Park and of course, the Castle. Although restored over 30years ago it is still in great condition and sense of how it was during its early days/years.
Even if you have no intention to visit any of the above, it is worth the trek for the rewarding views.

Yes, it's very old (and restored our days) but I didn't find anything very special about the stairs.
