Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful and very interesting cathedral right at the centre of Košice. Well worth a look inside to appreciate the history and dedication over the years to build this well presented place of worship. It’s accessible to all, and small donation fee is well worth to have a look around.

Amazing medieval dome and the easternmost Gothic cathedral in Europe. I like the view from the top of the Northern Zikmund tower (entrance fee 3 Euro). The spiral staircase is nothing for claustrophobic people.

Exceptionally beautiful and well maintained Cathedral right at the heart of the city of Kosice.
This contains a lot of the history of both Slovakia and Hungary - you may be surprised, just as we were, by the burial places of Rakoczi and of the three martyrs of Kosice.
This is well worth a couple of hours to visit.
Oh and to climb up the belfry is good, but tiring-- very tiring

I wasnt expecting much from Kosice as it is Eastern Europe and rumours say it is not very safe to travel there, but I was really surprised by the city! Positively surprised!

It is fair to say that the cathedral itself as a smaller brother of similar gothic cathedrals across Europe is interesting in itself but is equally important to describe the town of Kosice to potential visitors, since I believe that it would be a nonsense to travel to Kosice only for the sake of the cathedral.
If you hear that Kosice is the second biggest town in Slovakia you should not be misled into thinking that it is a big city because, except Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, there are no real big cities in Slovakia. On the contrary, it's quite a small town, especially the town centre consisting of the Main Street and a few surrounding small streets with a few monuments scattered in this small area (eg. cathedral, theatre...)
The major problem with Kosice, as with most Slovakian towns, is that the height of their development came during the Communist era and the accompanying industralization of the then agrarian country. The result is that the population of Kosice during the era after the steel factory construction increased five times. To accommodate these people a large number of ghettoish blocks surrounding the historic centre was built so the impression of Kosice is very bleak.
If one adds very poor and often dirty public transport and overall obsolete infrastructure, Kosice can attract only very low-demanding tourists.

Kosice is a surprisingly interesting city to visit. The old city has a long and unique history, and the surrounding area contains wineries that produce Tokaj wines. The cathedral of St. Elizabeth is a landmark on Hlvana Street and well worth seeing. The beauty of the cathedral and the city itself is most appreciated if you can join a walking tour.

Other than the lovely old section of the city, this church is the only thing to see in town. After seeing so many in Europe, this one is beautiful but nothing special. It dominates the town, however, and the church bells ring nicely.

I guess i am a little baised because i was born in Kosice, Slovakia and moved to the U.S. when I was 9 but i still remember this church as one of the most magnificent pieces of architecture I have ever seen!! You really feel at peace when you go inside like you are a part of history. I would reccomend for anyone who visists the most beautiful city in the world, Kosice, to visit this church as well!! It is a must see!!

Wow- what a stunning cathedral in what seems to be a small city! Dominates the lovely center of town and is really magnificent.

Beautiful building with a surprising amount of light. There are guided tours available. Some interesting monuments inside including one to Sara Salkahazi who helped hundreds of jews during the 2nd world war.
