Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Unusual looking object, a portcullis hanging above the street. Thank god for Tripadvisor I managed to find out the significance of this monument otherwise it would have been dismissed as another modern street art.

Not a must see but if you happen to be around the area, not far from the Primate's Palace and where the city theatre is located, just look up.

Hanging above the street in Old Town, this gate symbolises previous fortifications of the city during the Middle Ages. It is not an original, as this was destroyed, but merely a tribute to a time when gates and moats were a normal feature of this city.

The Laurinc Gate was the southern gate of the walled city of Bratislava in ancient times. The gate was destroyed somehwere in the 19th century as it was preventing the expansion of the city. We understood from our guide that rather than a normal gate, this was more of a tunnel with a moat in front of the tunnel. The entrance was guarded by portculls and because of the proximity to the Danube, the moat was always full. The portculls still exist.

Laurinc Gate is a wonderful feature of the Old Town, if you care to look up while exploring the beautiful little Old Town your sure to see this amazing gate which is one fantastic looking piece of street art .
The gate, named in honiur of St Lawrence, was once part of the defensive walls built in the 14th century but the walls and gatehouse was demolished on the orders of Empress Maria Theresa Of Austria in the 18th century, all that remains is Laurinc gate ( Lauinska Brana ) which looks amazing and makes for some great photographic opportunities.
Easy to locate in the Old Town, well worth checking out if your in the area.

There used to be 4 main gates to the old town area of Bratislava but the only one still standing is Michael's Gate. The portculis to the Laurinc Gate sits high up in the sky, just hanging there at the location it would have existed.

it kind of looks odd hanging in the sky and some people don't actually look up so they don't even know it's there. It's not spectacular, just unusual, so I put this on the "doesn't matter if you miss it" list. I wouldn't prioritise seeking it out.

This is quite an unusual feature that creates a nice impression when you arrive in the old town. Nice touch.

I just happened upon this and thought "Really? This is considered an attraction?". The history behind its cool, but I wouldn't go across town for it.

Laurinc Gate was one of the four major gateways into the old town when the fortifications were built many years ago. Unfortunately as time passed, like two of the other gates, Laurinc Gate was demolished and is no more. This hanging portcullis is a representation of where Laurinc Gate used to be and it is good that Bratislava has at least erected something to remember its history. However, as a sight this is average really. You will probably pass this as the street is a fairly attractive part of the eastern side of the old town.

Anyone who has paid close attention to the city's coat-of-arms will recognise this as the porticulus gate which was once part of Bratislava's city walls.

It is a bit of local colour which shows where the porticulus gate could once be found, reminding people of vanished parts of the city's urban fabric. On the other hand, it absolutely is not one of the major monuments or sights of the Old Town.
