Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For a museum of only moderate size, there is a lot to see here: not just cars, trucks and trains, but oddball vehicles designed for special purposes, such as a wheeled conveyence made for WW I amputees to drive themselves.

An effort is made to put things in context, too. There's a mock-up railroad office complete with a uniformed mannequin to show you what was needed to run the trains on time "back in the day," along with many smaller exhibits showing authentic railroad attire and equipment to give a good idea of how it all came together. I really enjoy those "you are there" type displays that convey a lot, not only about the work and the equipment, but about the way everything was set up and closely monitored to get the job done well and on time.

A definite highlight is the big locomotive parked outside on the tracks just behind the museum, so you can see it "up close and personal." Also at the back, affixed at eye level to the brick wall of the museum so you can note the progress is a series of illustrations and photos showing the different crossings of the Danube over the years, from the first one to the most recent. It's an interesting sidelight, something I did not expect to see here, but I found very interesting.

Staff when we visited were friendly and helpful, and they spoke some English, which was greatly appreciated.

I think this would be an enjoyable museum for most people, including children, and so I recommend you consider a visit while you are in Bratislava. It is right near the train station. You can ask there if you don't immediately see the entrance.

I absolutely loved this place. This museum had one of my favorite cars ever to see in a museum …an unrestored 1913 Buick. The communist era vehicles were incredible. Trains are not really my thing, but seeing the old train station was interesting. The had bicycles from 1900s thru the 1970s. The signs for the displays are in Slovak and English.

It’s ok place, not really a museum.
Basically it’s a working railway yard/depot with a stack of old trains. No entry costs, free to walk around and even claim on/in some of the stuff.
Few builds have stuff in them but you have to book to go in. No real staff other than staff working.
Worth a visit I guess

Landmark protected part of railway depot Bratislava-Vychod (East) serves as a museum of railway, where you can have first-hand experience with steam locomotives and other railway equipment. The museum is open from April 15 to October 15, on Mondays and Wednesdays 10am to 5pm. Access is a bit complicated, the best way is to get to bus stop Lokomotivne Depo I (bus 56, 52 or 54), where you can find steam locomotive which carries instructions how to get to the entrance. The best time to visit is during special events (Bratislava for everybody, Rendez - Steam Days etc.), when more locomotives are put on display and special train rides are provided.

It is not that hard. Catch a tram #3, 5, or 7 with destination Raca. You can buy a ticket on the tram from a machine. Use English flag button to get translation. You will need a zone 100/101 ticket. Alight at Detvianska, walk to right 100m to bus stop for buses#52, 56. There are about 4 per hour. It is then about 5 stops. The tram ride was about 25 minutes and another 7 minutes on the bus. The Locomotiva 1 stop is past where you want to go, but if you go a little further you see the old steam loco with the map. Then go back about 400m along the lane, do a U - turn and there you are. I came on a Wednesday in mid September at 10.00 hrs. The gate was open, but no one was around. I could see all the external exhibits and they were very impressive. I took so many photos as I walked all over.

Although it is close to the station - we did not find it easily - sighposting could be a lot better!
That said, really enjoyed our visit. It's not the most polished museum, but it's only €3. Quite an eclectic mix of stuff, but if you're even slightly interested in cars or trains you'll enjoy it.

Here you can go outdoors and see large Soviet Era Steam locomotives, the first electric Slovakian engine (1914) and a number of other unique pieces of rail stock. Inside, in a number of large rooms, you will see the history of rail in Slovakia as well as their old cars, bicycles and motor cycles, some are one of a kind pieces, There is also a section of Slovakia during the First World War, so it is interesting for not only the railway buff, but also for those whole enjoy the historical part of a city or nation. On our visit in January, the local custodian had the time to take us on a personal tour, adding to the enlightenment though his depth of knowlege. Thanks goes out to the staff.
