Hubert is a Napoleonic soldier who reportedly fell in love with a local girl when Napoleons army laid siege to and then entered Bratislava and he then stayed. He was also purported to have started to make sparkling wine as well.
His back/rear end is also facing towards the French embassy as well?
I liked this statue again as it shows the history of the city and region.
Sit down and have your photo taken with Hubert when your there.

Stopped to take a photo and had to wait a while for others taking theirs. Bench could do with being repaired. Nice square.

This popular bronze statue is located in the main square. The common narrative related to the statue is that it depicts one of Napoleon's soldiers who entered Bratislava in 1805, fell in love with a local girl and stayed. Our guide had a different story, pointing out that the statue of the soldier leaning over the park bench has his posterior squarely directed toward the French Embassy building behind, and that the sculptor intended the depiction to be a modern-day dig at the French for the siege of Bratislava during the Napoleonic times. I personally find the second version far more interesting and knowing the Slovakians' keen sense of humour, I tend to believe it.

You will end up on the bench and have your picture taken - that much is certain. This and the manhole statue were two of the best. All are located in the central Old Town. Don’t get too relaxed on the bench - other tourists were waiting in line to have their pictures taken.

To truly experience Bratislava we would recommend a guide who can explain each of the unique statues and their stories found in and around Old Town. This like the others provides an opportunity for a photo that can not be replicated anywhere else.

So according to the guide Napoleon’s army once got the high ground and bombed the city into submission. Houses burned down and damage was done. Then the stayed in the city for 5 months eating all the food. They made a statue to remember this.

You will see this statue in the city square. Others will be sitting with him taking pictures. Worth a photo.

There are many metal statues in the old city. Napoleon's army man is but one of them. There is also a statue of a sewer worker poking his head above-ground watching all of the passers-by. Rub his nose for good luck!

Located in the center square, a beautiful area of the city. There were many people sitting next to it and taking pictures.

Concordo con quanto già detto da Lise1856.
Basta poco, facendo il tour del piccolo ma delizioso centro storico di Bratislava non potrai non incontrarli.
Buona passeggiata.
