We did the river cruise and visit, which was simplicity. The castle itself is spread out a bit, and a degree of steps are involved. Terrific views.

First, I don't know how Tripadviser came up with the address stated, Muranska 10, Bratislava. That appears to be family home. However, Devin Castle should not be difficult to find - we had no difficulty driving from Bratislava, using our GPS. Is only 8 miles and an easy trip. The Devin castle is ruins, but it has been beautifully developed into a major tourist attraction and is definitely worth visiting. Its location is at the confluence of the Danube and the Morava rivers, which has historically been a strategic location. The castle was intentionally destroyed by Napoleon in 1809 to remove it as a possible stronghold that could be used against him. You will most likely arrive by car. There is a large parking lot. We arrived on a July Sunday and had no problems parking. Then you take a foot path to the top where you can see the ruins of the castle and beautiful views of the confluence and vicity. There is a small museum as well. The whole area has been made very visitor friendly. There are stairs, bridges, everything the visitor needs to safely negotiate and enjoy the area. There are even restrooms on top. We missed the memorial to victims of communism at the bottom, to the 400 people (or so) that lost their lives here trying to make it across the Morava into Austria. Under communism, the area was full of barbed wire and guards and those trying to make their way to freedom would be shot. Now it's called The Gate of Freedom Memorial. I visited it virtually after we returned home. We arrived late at the castle and our visit was around 1-1/2 hours. It was enough and we made it a relatively short visit because it looked like it might start raining. But on a beautiful day you may wish to linger longer, so I indicated 2-3 hours to be a desirable length of visit. But if you are short on time, 1-2 hours is doable. Everything was do-it-yourself, you hike, you explore, all on your own.…

A long, steep climb up but well worth the energy expended. Wonderful views of the Danube River and the Morava River. The historic significance of this site is very special to Slovaks. They were unable to visit during communist times as the risk of escape to the west from the height was obvious. A number did escape using hang gliders! Much of the destruction was done by Napoleon's troops as they rampaged across Europe.…

A friend showed us this great place, which is overlooking the Danube river. Just splendid. There is a small museum up the castle stairs showing some items which were found around the castle from different times of history. If you want to become a hobby knight, check out your skills. The guys are lovely and it’s fun.…
