- Kamal PByron Bay, Australia9,568 contributionsVery prominent and attractiveWe travelled some distance from the city in order to see the “Blue church” also known as “Modry Kostol” in Slovak. Blue colour has made the St. Elizabeth church very striking and significant attracting travellers to pay a visit. Blue grey roof and pastel sky blue and its lighter shades on walls have made it a very unique and eye-catching piece of architecture and a building that was outstanding from the rest. The art nouveau style in the church design was admirable.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 April 2024
- Steve DDivonne-les-Bains, France847 contributionsSimply beautifulOne of the most attractive churches I have ever seen. Stunning architecture and the haunting blue colour both outside and inside. Was a long walk from the centre and a little difficult to find, but well worth the effort. Memorable !Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 30 April 2024
- EgbertvanderVeenEde, The Netherlands474 contributionsBlue Hungarian churchThe blue is also present inside on the benches. Catholic church in the east of the old town. The church was built according to the plans of Ödön Lechner in a style referred to as szecesszió, a kind of Hungarian Art Nouveau style.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 June 2024
- Arque HBadalona, Spain253 contributionsSmurfette ChurchHonestly, the most colorful in Bratislava. Cockoo church, small and very nice. It is a little far from the center, about 10min walk. It is in the top5 of things to visit in the small capital, next to the sculptures, the cathedral, the castle and the UFOVisited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 August 2024
- Esther1072018Bolsward, The Netherlands49 contributionsBeautiful special churchBeautiful fairytale church with ditto interior. You should definitely walk by when you are in Bratislava. You can't always visit the church, but you can take a look through the door. From the centre follow the signs (or via maps or a map), you will get there automatically. The church is located outside the center, but you can walk from there to the large shopping center Eurovea and then back to the center via the Donaukade. Then you have a nice round and is good to walk.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 September 2024
- Marco PRome, Italy516 contributionsBeautiful and well preservedThe Blue Church is a must for those visiting Bratislava and from a strictly aesthetic point of view the most beautiful. It is very well preserved, it looks like it was built the day before, and has several blue colored niches on the outside that make up very beautiful photo spots. The interior is beautiful but not particularly lavish.Visited November 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 December 2024
- Sarah LLondon, United Kingdom3,640 contributionsBlue churchA beautiful church with a bright exterior in the middle of the city. It's not as nice as some of the other churches, but still worth a look. Be mindful that the church closes at certain points during the day so, plan your visit appropriately.Visited October 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 December 2024
- AngelLondon, United Kingdom480 contributionsStunning blue churchOnly managed to visit the outside of the church. They have very short opening times, only few hours a day. The building on the outside is mesmerising, the colour is beautiful and changes depending on the light. Worth the walk from the old town to check out this church. Will not need long at all if not able to visit inside.Visited December 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 December 2024
- GORDON F4 contributionsMost unusual church. The church is generally closed unless their is a service, although you can look through a window to see some of the interior. I was advised to visit half an hour before the service and it proved worthwhile. The pews and confession box are also blue. A most unusual church but a highlight of any visit to the old town.Visited January 2025Travelled soloWritten 3 February 2025

The church is not in the pedestrian center of the city but it takes a short time to get there on foot. It is a very beautiful church to see, a symbol of the city and a must-see. We liked it a lot even though it wasn't possible to see it.

You’ll find the Blue Church located not far from the city center. Only open on weekends and special days. Even though you cannot go in, you can get a peek of the interior through a barred entrance. Beautiful art noveau architecture.

Once you have admired the blue church with its extraordinary blue facade and blue interior all designed by one Architect, go and stand at the entrance and look across the street, at the yellow building opposite. It is safe to guess that this large school building was designed by the same architect and it has to be one of the most beautiful secondary schools I have ever seen. You will be looking at the back of the Gymnasium so I recommend you walk round to the front and look at it from the main street: It is an exquisite example of art nouveau design. Gymnasiums equate to English grammar schools and children go to these aged 16 or else they go to a technical college. Both routes lead to useful and respected careers.

A short 15 minute walk from Bratislava city centre, this beautiful little church is well worth a visit.
This church wouldn't look out of place in Disneyland but be sure to check opening times as it is only open briefly throughout the week. We were informed that lots of wedding couples come here to have their photographs taken outside this very picturesque place, but in the limited time we were there we unfortunately didn't see any.

Beautiful and highly unusual church which is a short walk from the town centre. The blue on the outside is quite striking as is the inside, which is a similar colour. Up close, the detail on the walls os quite outstanding.
The opening hours are erratic and it seems to be most likely to be open in the early evenings. However when we went during the day, the door was open with a locked grate in place so we could at least see in and admire the amazing interior.

Otherwise known as St Elizabeth Catholic Church, this stunning piece of architecture looks like a delicious confection of blue icing. The entire structure is painted pale blue and punctuated with bright blue mosaic tiles. The interior is painted with a lighter pastel blue with some yellow accents. It is only open between 7:00-7:30 in the mornings and between 5:30-7:00 in the evenings, but you can go in the door and stand in a glassed vestibule that allows you to see some of the interior. Located just a few blocks away from the historic center, the Blue Church is a must see while in Bratislava.

Pretty blue church located within 10 minutes walk from the old town. The church was closed but doors were open but barred so you could see inside though you could not go inside. Interesting school building located across the street from the church. Worth the walk to go and see the church.

This modest church is a quick walk from downtown Bratislava and should be checked out. I loved the powder blue exterior and there were quite a few tourists milling around just like us. Services were going on inside, so we only had a quick peek. On your walk over, don’t miss the food truck square for drinks and food.

The Blue Church is kind of unique looking, which makes it unusual to visit/photograph. But it's also kind of off by itself, not near many other things you'd want to visit as a tourist. So if it's a lovely day and you fancy the walk, go for it. But we trekked all the way there in the rain only to find out that it was closed so we could not see the inside. The outside reminded me of an attraction you'd find at Disneyland.

In auto ci si può arrivare? E dal centro quanto dista a piedi?
Written 26 August 2016
Di certo ci si potrà arrivare anche in auto, ma di certo è meglio andarci a piedi e dal centro in un quarto d'ora ci si arriva. Bratislava è una capitale, ma il centro è piccolo!
