Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's important to note there are two buildings used by the National Theatre, the historic building and the new theatre. The historic building is prettier by far, but I prefer the new building to actually see a performance, as it has better sight lines. They are not close to each other, so make sure which building you have a ticket for!

The Slovak National Theatre looks really nice in the middle of the city. You can find very similar buildings in Hungary (Budapest, Szeged, etc.) also facilitating theatres.

This is a beautiful building in central Bratislava. Other reviews make me wish I'd gone inside. But be sure to take so pictures of the exterior.

Slovak National Theatre is one of the most beautiful landmarks in old Bratislava. With baroque architecture, close to the Philharmonic, both cultural center of the capital.

This imposing Neo-Renaissance theater on the east side of Hviezdoslav Square was built in 1884-86. It was a short walk from our hotel, and as such, we saw it every day that we were in Bratislava. While is was closed during our stay in the city, my spouse and I nevertheless appreciated its exterior beauty.

Its creators were two Viennese architects (Fellner and Helmer), who specialized in theaters. The facade is decorated with busts including Goethe, Liszt and Shakespeare to name a few. It is particularly stunning when spot-lighted at night.

The Slovak National Theatre is a building at the eastern end of Hviezdoslavovo square. This building is the oldest of a trio of buildings called national theatre. It’s a pretty looking Neo-Renaissance style building with an interesting entrance with a four column portico, supporting a balcony above it and topped with busts of composers appear the Muse of Thalia, the Muse of comedy and idyllic poetry. The building is beautifully lit up at night and it's worth visiting both day and night if you have the time.

As probably many tourists I was wondering how to meet both opera dress code traditions and travel luggage restrictions. The performance was held in a new building SND at Pribinova street (cannot say I find the new theatre architecture as appealing as the old one's), it was a work day, so I hoped local theater goers would be less formally dressed, but 1000 meters before approaching the new theater building I could easily tell who was heading to the performance, all the ladies were elegantly dressed up, in dress shoes. I felt guilty for my travel athletic shoes, but packing a pair of hardly walkable shoes for a theater visit only was out of question. Sorry, Melpomene. Buying a ticket online beforehand was easy. The opera production (La Traviata) was in traditional settings. I don't know anything about operatic singing thus cannot comment in this respect, I simply overall enjoyed the performance on 16th of May. The balcony foyer has an installation dedicated apparently to the infinity of the knowledge symbolized by books. The Slovak people must be book lovers)))

Center of the performing arts for this city, it occupies a prominent space in the main squar near the Danube river. During our visit, a band was playing music on the balcony.
