Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The picture above is not so representing this area, because is showing only one part of The Town Castle area - this is the old Town Hall only, just now is there located gallery. Best representation of this area is the Barbican. The old Town Castle consist of some separate buildings: The Church of Virgin Mary (called The German Church), The Matej House (museum), The Church of Holy Cross (called the Slovak Church), The old Town Hall (gallery). The Barbican was used to entry gate to the Castle area, now it is entrance to the restaurant. Around these buildings are some part of fortifications and bastions. Area is fully accessible whole year because it is living area of town. This area is connected to SNP square.

Gallery inside the castle is wonderful. I most enjoyed the wood tiled ceiling that had the Holy Roman emporers painted on them.

Like everything in Slovakia, the town is modest but full of charm. It is a nice a area to stroll around and immerse yourself with your surrounding. It is relatively quiet and clean. I really enjoyed the visit

Nice place to grab a few photos. While nothing "spectacular" compared to other European castles this is a nice visit for those that happen to be touring the area. Upkeep seems a bit better than a few other of the attractions in Banska Bystica but let's be real, there are only a dozen or so "tourist attractions" in the town to start with. Take a day (or 2) and see them all.

This was part of the walk we took round the town.

There is a selection of churches and other architectural buildings of interest.

The churches are all nice inside but don't visit during a mass.

A few moments in this place made me happy. An example of a well-preserved old town clock and beautiful small town.

The castle area of Banska Bystrica is the oldest part of the town. The castle complex was built in the 12th and 13th centuries, and consists of both religious and secular buildings. All that remains of the original town walls and the castle's 18 bastions are three bastions and one long section of wall. The complex also includes the Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary, which was built in the Romanesque style in the 13th century, the Church of the Holy Cross dating from 1492, the Matthias House constructed in 1479, The Barbican, and the Old Town Hall.

It is best to tour the area with a local guide who will identify the buildings, and provide the necessary historical perspective.

Monumental church placed very close to main square was built in middle age from donation of german miners (church is called German church). Beautiful altar made by famous sculptor Mister Paul is one of the "must see" places. Problem is to find the church open for travellers and to find any person helpful for visitors.
