Address
Neighbourhood: Gellért Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.

Probably my favourite thermal spa in Budapest as there’s lots of variety and it’s good value for money- around £13 during the week or £15 at the weekend for a day pass. I visited twice in November and was very impressed however it was a slight shame that the big outdoor pool was closed, which must’ve been down to it being the wrong time of year. Overall would highly recommend and definitely go back.

DIRTY, but nice architecture!
Nov 2021 • Couples
Even though the building outside looks great, the inside of the Gellert Spa was quite different. The pools felt and looked unclean and the spa package was not the quality and comfort we paid for. The robes and the towels were paper thin and became soaking wet after two minutes in the spa. It was beautiful with the cathedral architecture inside but the dirty pools and bad spa package gear made this a disapointment. In the summer it may be better because more pools are open and the outside-area is problably a better wiew in summer.

Nice building but poor staffing and awful massage
Nov 2021 • Couples
Lovely building and pools, was great to explore but.
Upon entry we were told they didnt hire towels or robes and we would have to buy them from the shop. €43 euros later for 2 towels and 2 flip flops....to later find they did hire all the gear for €5 was very annoying.
We booked x2 20 minute massages, it was the worst massage ive ever had. I can only liken it someone applying suncream to my back for 20 minutes over and over. Poor was an understatement.
In general the staff lacked charm and we left feeling very underwhelmed.
Glad we got to look around the old gellert baths but definitely wouldnt go again.

Thanks

Most beautiful baths in Budapest
Nov 2021 • Couples
The size of this structure is just perfect compared to others. Great place to relax even though a bit loud - we would have appreciated to have some employees reminding the silent rule in some areas. Facilities are quite old but good looking - it was clean.

Beautiful thermal bath
Oct 2021
It is my first time going to this bath and the place is lovely. There are a lot of different thermal pools around the place with different temperatures. Recommend to go early to avoid crowds! The only problem is that the big outside pool was not working :(

Awesome experience

Visiting Budapest without going to the thermal baths is like visiting Naples without eating pizza. My parents and me had a lot of relax after our days of cultural tourism, and in the end we were satisfied!

We had a massage on the upper floor, after many massages i had i can say this was one of the best, attention to detail and care for the person and not for the massage description. It is very hard to get around but after 10min exploring, you find your way easily. The staff even soo not all spoke English, they did their best to accommodate. Its a nobel looking building, a bit old on something’s but overall it’s a must see place.

Swimming pool rather than spa
Nov 2021 • Friends
We went Gellert bath after hearing this was among the best thermal baths in Europe, although I surely hope not. The baths and changing rooms were dirty and broken, the pools seemed unclean, the steams rooms not working and filthy, and only two saunas were actually heating to a point were you could feel it. We walked by an employee, who was scolding a guest for not wearing slippers - which is fine - however, on the grounds that this is a 5-star spa, to which I can only laugh.

The location is beautiful, mosaics amazing, and the thermal pools were, to be fair, all right and cozy, as well as their massages, however, the entire place give me more the impression of a miskept swimming pool than a 5-star thermal bath experience.

Mediocre - nice building but layout was terrible
Sep 2021 • Friends
Beautiful building with numerous baths. Overall the experience was mediocre however. It's like a maze inside. Everytime I passed a member of staff they were directing customers around the building. Also I think the use of camera phones should not be allowed or at least monitored; there was an older gentleman on his own nearby our group who placed his phone in the corner of the bath as thought he was recording and did the same when he went into another bath. The mosaic tiles are nice to look at but the railings around the baths are green and look grimy.
