This is a very busy place, with lots of people walking around in swim suits trying to find a particular bath of pool. Things are quite spread out and it can be confusing. With a positive and go with the flow attitude it is relaxing and enjoyable.

Tarnished spa with smaller mistakes, but it's still worth visiting. The quality of the spa waters are fantastic. A bit overpriced, but we had positive experiences all in all.

Had a lovely day at the spa, which I had booked as a birthday treat for my partner. The spa has several thermal pools, saunas, steam rooms etc, which were all very nice. We enjoyed our vip massage, and a nice light lunch. The only let down was the staff, who don't smile much, and don't seem very willing to... More

I thoroughly enjoyed this visit. It had some mixed reviews but I found it clean and well organised. It's worth getting a cabin, you can leave your things. We booked the cabin with the entry. You need a head cap to swim in the big pool but not in the heated pools. There are a number of heated pools plus... More

you are in Budapest, so you want to get a SPA experience. you are doubting between Gellert and Széchenyi because they are both the most traditional ones. Yes, it’s nice building and big with a lot of option. BUT they are old and not very well maintained. Showers looks old ‘70s not super clean and bad quality. You see it... More

The pools are beautiful and very relaxing. We also enjoyed a very good, and reasonably priced, massage. The only downside was the confusion on arrival. The cabin/locker system is not very clear and lacks any instructions. The staff however were all very willing to help.

If you can plan to spend an hour or two and soak in the hot spring fed pools of the outstanding Gellert spa, treat yourself! This is a treat for your body and eyes. The tile work is beautiful and the hot water is so comforting, it is like bathing in a cathedral!

I only had one short opportunity to visit here on a one night stay in Budapest. So if you are in a similar predicament it can be done! I stayed up at the Hilton Budapest (in the castle area). Got up Sunday morning at 6:30 am (the baths open at 6am but that was too early for me). Hotel called... More

Gellert Spa certainly looks the part and I did have a nice, relaxing time there. I echo other reviewers thoughts though in saying quite a few staff and yet not much help or guidance for someone who isn't a local. Having lived in Japan for a few years and enjoyed the onsens there I felt the main pool inside and... More

My husband, daughter and I visited the Gellert Spa on Thanksgiving and had a wonderful, relaxing spa day. It can be a little confusing at first but after we figured things out, it was great. We had booked massages the day before, so we were able to enjoy the spas both before and after our massages. Especially nice was the... More

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.
