This is a good place to see Danube River and Budapest high up, however you can go either by taking the steps and exploring every level that comes with or you need to take the bus, taxi, motorbike, (Bike ) if you are not able to do so. Because it is steep and need great walking/hiking boots for that part.... More

This place you should always visit at night to experience the beautiful Budapest. Citadel is the top point of Buda and you can see almost 100km of the city. Heaven for photographers.

From here you get a very nice view to the whole city around. Small and silent park located at the top of the hill is like a small heaven in the city center.

Long walk up suggest you get a taxi up and walk back down. Amazing views right over the city. Lots of 'con' men trying to get tourist to play rigged card games. Keep your handbag/ wallet close. As soon as you are away from the main crowds no problems at all.

don't get me wrong, the views from the top are amazing but that is about it - pictures show this as a lively museum but everything inside looked closed and like it had been for some time (not just because we were there in the Autumn) which was disappointing. The toilets were open and staffed however which was a bonus.... More

Don't make the mistake of hopping off the bus, going to the viewing point, snapping a picture and hopping back on! There is so much more to this attraction and we loved exploring the area. There are great pictures to be taken from below the platform everyone else stands on, so take a look. On a mild autumn day, the... More

The stop with the Hop on/Off bus was only for 10 minutes (clic, clic!), not the way I like to visit, so I decided to walk around the Citadel, taking my time, reading the information available and admiring the views on all sides as there would be a next bus. I'm glad I did because there were few people walking... More

The citadel is situated in one of the best locations for some of the best scenery shots in Budapest, the Citadel is it self very plain and not much to look at, it doesn't have a long history, but it's still managed to have its moments as the bullet and she'll scars on the outside walls bear testament to. Surrounded... More

Highest point in the city, gives a great view of the river and city centre, bit of a trek up to the top, but worth it if you're into that kind of thing

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.
