Having been to a number of performances at the Opera House itself, we decided to book one at Erkel. Unlike other reviewers we found it quite easy to see which performances were in each venue (‘E’ for Erkel & ‘O’ for Opera House on the...More

The National Opera House is beautiful in its grandeur, but the Erkel Theatre's updates make it a much more comfortable experience so a patron can actually get lost in the performance instead of being sidetracked by how uncomfortable the seat is. The prices are also...More

We came for a recital by Renée Fleming but this is not the purpose of the review. What is positive are the reasonable prices. Although as mentioned earlier, the ticket mostly in Hungarian, does not make it clear that it is not at the Opera...More

Came not by design to Erkel. Ticket website does not help foreign travellers as was not clear it was not at the state opera house. However, still not dissapointed. Very modern and reasonable ticket price. Slightly modern take on Aida (military helmets) but otherwise excellent....More

I have to confess that we ended up in the Erkel Theatre by accident. Before arriving in Budapest, my friend had booked tickets for us to see Don Giovanni on the Hungarian State Opera House web site without realising the affiliation between the two theatres....More

We bought the whole box for a showing of Billy Elliot because the seats were so reasonable. It was a great experience. The show was really well done and the theatre is nice - very comfortable and has a nice acoustic to it. Sub-titles in...More

I must say first that I cannot remember visiting this operahouse when I lived here. However looking at the history of the building it was there. It has been renovated with a facade change in the 1960, I think with a rather gloomy colour scheme....More

Watched Don Giovanni last night as the tickets were really cheap only 2900huf each. Even a glass of wine was quite cheap here unlike the UK. The auditorium had great acoustics but was like an oven and really detracted from the show for me.

Quite different from its big brother the State Opera, this is the second venue for the opera. It's modern but very comfortable. When they refurbish the main opera house soon all productions will take place here

I wanted to go to the opera, and since my companion is not a very big opera-fan, we opted for the well-known and classic La Boheme. I bought the tickets in the old beautiful operabuilding, I was rather disappoited when they told me the performance...More

Great reviews.. I will be in Budapest for six days. We are arriving on April 16th.. How do you view the schedule of shows and purchase tickets ? Can you purchase box office tickets the night of a show or do you purchase in advance because shows are usually sold out ?

The shows are well attended, so f there is anything you want to see, you should book in advance. They have a web-site called budapestopera-tickets
