Lovely experience within the fairytale like fortress. The scenic views are amazing, not only you get to see the parliament from a perfect picture perspective, also the river and the city of Pest. The area of Buda around the fishermans bastion is packed with excellent restaurants and coffee bars. There is also a church with beautiful roofs.

An amazing view over the Danube and the past side of this city. There is a funicular train which takes you to the top, saves on the steep hill climb. The stop on the big bus is no.11 .

this is a free activity and definitely something that you should spend a while exploring. We visited when there was poor visability and the river was frozen, but even so I think that the was worth the time to visit. It is very touristy so would recommend planning the time you arrive to avoid peak tourist time.

My wife and I visited this recently. After admiring the architecture, you can get a wonderful view across the Danube towards the Parliament and Pest.

We saw this as part of the day we spent in Buda. We started off on the funicular railway - quick! Then walked around the Castle etc. There is a lot to see on the top and it would be worth planning your time carefully to make sure you don't miss anything and decide which places you want to go... We visited the Bastion as we walked through the castle grounds - this is a great place to get pictures across the Danube River of Pest.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
