A must visit when you travel tu Budapest, and like all sites in Budapest, it's more immpresive at night time. You have to climb some stairs, but it worth it. Great view over the city, and the place itself it's great. Don't miss it!

Part of the obligatory walk round Buda on its castle hill and old town. It's a limestone platform up some steps (no lift evident) and gives an excellent view across to Pest on the other side of the river Danube it's not the only viewpoint there.

There was a lot of construction going on when we went, so a lot of the areas were closed. Beautiful views of the Pest side from here. It’s too bad that the prime spots are taken over by restaurants so you’d actually have to pay to see the view from there.

Enjoyed this visit immensely. Guide was very good. Large crowds even though late in season. A great bit of Hungarian history.

Fisherman's Bastion is well worth a visit. The views of the city are amazing and if you time it for sunset, the reflection of the light off the buildings and water are photo worthy to say the very least. A must see!

Great view from fisherman bastion to lake Danube and the Parliament. There is a small restaurant at the top, it is totally worth it to sit there relax with a glass of wine and tapas.

Great photo op area. Walked from Castle hill but you can also just walk here from the Chain bridge, hills and steps involved. Great strudel spot at the intersection above.

Gorgeous place with stunning views of Pest, especially Parliament. The cafe in one of the turrets must have one of the most scenic views for a cafe anywhere. Also a great spot to marvel at the outside of St Mathias church with its coloured roof and impressive architecture.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
