A good review of Hungary in the terms of modern military events (1800-2016). To survey every exhibit, it might take some time. Plan on at least and hour and a half.

DH is a war history buff. I went along and was fascinated with this museum. A "curator" advised as to how to navigate the various floors in chronological order which was helpful. The exhibits were informative and well done and gave me (an educated person, but ignorant of detailed world history such as the fact that the occupying Soviet troops... More

We are particularly interested in the history of WWI and there was a new exhibition which highlighted Hungary's participation which we found particularly interesting. There is a lot to see so allow a couple of hours.

Went to this museum today and looking at the reviews I appear to have missed some of it... the problem is non English speaking staff and the lack of a map/brochure. What I saw was great and worth a 4+ stars - what I missed even after asking if there was more.... gets a 3

We learned a lot about the history of Eastern Europe that isn't familiar to most North Americans. Conveyed in a rich series of displays of weapons, uniforms, maps, letters, posters and dioramas, the ups and (mostly) downs of Hungarian military history are set against the broader turmoil of Europe since the Middle Ages. Huge variety of well-preserved items on display,... More

Rich museum with many-many things to see from many era's of warfare. Particularly liked the World War exhibitions, plus the chance to hold and examine rifles. Also they have a glass box with models of all the Wehrmacht ground and air units, as well as those of the Allies and Hungarian troops.

This is a nice place to visit for an hour or two. It has a very good restaurant out front, and a luncheon dining courtyard area too! Out front are rows of canons, and small jet planes too! Out back are rows of newer tanks & tank transporters. Inside major historical battle scenes with uniforms, swords, guns, an area with... More

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
