It's closed :( And here's a typical Hungarian not used with tourist info, we were redirected toward another house wine who didn't exist anymore. Hungarian were trying to help, but the lack of written indication play against them sometimes!

It is nog longer there. It closed down 2 years ago. We were very disappointed since this was one of our reasons of the trip. Their website is still active though...

We spent half an hour looking for the Royal Wine House at Buda Castle but could not find it. We eventually asked a local who told us it was now a Spy Museum - most dissapointing as we were looking forward to a wine tasting!

We visited at the end of the afternoon. I must say there is a LOT of information in the museum, which might be just a bit too much, lot's of plaquetes with loads anloads of texts of all kinds of wine regions and kinds of grapes and it got me a bit lost. But overall nice just to get a... More

We had a lovely hour or so with a selection of reds (tailored to suit our preferences), a plate of salami and a plate of cheese. Bliss. It was also great to hear about the different wine regions and their histories, as well as have a wander around the cellars. Not cheap but we thought it was worth it.

We came here with my then boyfriend in 2003 and absolutely loved it. The whole idea about walking thru the laberynth that showed the various wine regions of Hungary, while testing the wine they had open, in little glasses (and then getting to take those glasses home) was the best idea ever. Since then we had told all our friends... More

If you know about wine then you should avoid this place, I took the most expensive tasting and the quality was very low, it's obvious that some red wine bottles where open for too long time. Prices in the Cellar are expensive, it is a rip-off place. Not including the "museum", it's also very limited, just few tools and puppets... More

We are serious wine collectors and expected a much more extensive tasting and greater value than was provided. For those who prefer to drink the wine rather than taste a number of varieties, I must say that the size of pourings was quite generous. We did not go with a tour group, so it was just us and the server.... More

Unimpressed. The cellars were not very interesting and the tastings were nothing special.

This museum is tucked away behind Buda Castle. One great thing about the Castle Hill is there are lots of little museums and interesting shops. One could spend the better part of a day just poking around the area. Once you reach the road behind Buda castle there are signs pointing out the wine cellar museum. The museum itself is... More

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
