More
Predjama Castle is situated in the middle of a towering cliff, a mere 9 km from Postojna Cave. Picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable, it has been dominating the surrounding area, perched high up in the 123-metre high cliff, for more than 800 years. It is listed among the Guinness World Records as the largest cave castle in the world. Check the timetable of visits by months.

This castle looks exactly like the photos, very cool how it disappears into the cliff. We enjoyed seeing all of the rooms and how the building integrates with the cave. There is a well organized tour system, you follow a set path with headsets, and...More

Very impressive castle, located partially in the cave. Looks splendid from outside. Inside many stairs, difficult for older people and kids, but definitely worth seeing. Busy, and therefore not that easy to park the car. There is a free shuttle bus from the postojnska jama.

Predjama Castle is built into a cave and was designed for protection and not to provide for comfort - cold and draughty. It is quite unique and well worth a visit, especially if you enjoy history and castles. The castle dates back to the early...More

I went to Predjama castle as part of a two centre tour with Postojna caves and the in my opinion the castle is the better of the two. Its visually stunning from the outside and most unusually it was even better on the inside as...More

A great effort is being put forth by the powers in control of this beautiful building. Its maintenance alone would require hundreds of hours to keep the allure this structure poses. It is always with respect and admiration that I imagine the whole construction process...More

Self guided tour will take you at least an hour, if not more. It is a steep climb every now and then. The history is well explained, in an entertaining and educational way. Views are spectacular, we think a must-do in Slovenia!

Was busy but this did not detract from enjoyment. Make sure and take audio guide as this brings everything to life. Beautiful area with stunning views from castle.

My wife was a bit disappointed at first as she thought it would be bigger and it badly needs a paint job or new stucco. But the self guided tour won her over. It really was excellent. A must see!

Super busy, but also super cool. Join the hordes and enjoy. Easy shuttle bus from the caves if you get a combination ticket. Beware the stairs though!

The castle is very nice and interesting and with a fantastic view. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Also the cave below the castle is beautiful, thanks a lot to Branco our guide on the 1st tour this morning.

Nope, will be easier without the push chair.. very steep stairs at some places. I would say take the audio guide for the interesting stories / information for each place.

Hi, we are doing a day trip from Ljubljana, and want to do the Postonja Caves, Predjama Castle, and Piran. I know we can get a combo ticket for the caves and castle. I was thinking we could get an early start from Ljubljana and hit either the caves or the castle on the way down to Piran, then lunch in Piran, and hit the caves or the castle on the way back to Llubljana (whichever one we didn't see on the way down). Is this too much for one day? How long does it take to tour the castle? Is it guided or self-tour? It looks like the caves take about 2.5 hours, leaving every hour. Any advice about when the caves are most crowded? If we do as described above, would it be better to see the caves in the morning and castle in the afternoon or the other way around? thank you so much for any thoughts on this!

I did all three in one day and yes, it was a long day but worth it! Didn't rush anything and still managed to spend a decent amount of time at the caves and the castle with a few hours in Piran. In hindsight I should have... More

You'll only get to see the outside of it - spend an hour to take a quick trip in it - well worth it!
