Predjama Castle is situated in the middle of a towering cliff, a mere 9 km from Postojna Cave. Picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable, it has been dominating the surrounding area, perched high up in the 123-metre high cliff, for more than 800 years. It is listed among the Guinness World Records as the largest cave castle in the world. Check the timetable of visits by months.

Beautifully picturesque situated in a luscious severe valley. A cave overhangs the classically Central European castle which is reached by a drawbridge. Free parking, free toilets and a delicious restaurant are nearby. There is a fascinating story behind the castle which makes the walls come...More

We did this as part of the Postojna Cave attraction (9 km away), where you can buy a combo ticket. The castle has audio guides which are in 17 different languages. You walk all through this very unique attraction. Apparently you can abseil into the...More

Europe has a lot of cool castles but the Predjama Castle is so unique. It is a castle built into a mountain. Even though we have previously viewed photos online of the castle, when we saw it in person all of our jaws dropped. It...More

This was part of two tours I did, however the second tour only gave enough time to take photos outside and not go inside the castle which is worth the visit. It can be also done in a combo package deal with Postojna Cave. Erazem...More

Definitely a cool looking castle tucked into a cliff. The cave system was so awesome that our group was pretty overwhelmed by the time we got to the castle - but everyone was glad we saw it!

It is a rustic castle and I love that it is built into the cave. The audio gave you a very good idea of life in those times

This is one of the best preserved castles i have ever been to. All the rooms inside make you feel the history and the audioguide is very good too, so you get the essence of how and what happened there. I loved it

Drove about 200 km from Ptuj to check this castle. I though: ok, one more. But that was a valid experience. The castle is built in the rock. Lots of history to make your imagination run free. One wonders how was it possible to live...More

Not far from Ljubljana and well worth a visit. You need to be stable on your legs and I would suggest good shoes as you are required to climb some steep and slippy steps! Go and visit!

Nope, will be easier without the push chair.. very steep stairs at some places. I would say take the audio guide for the interesting stories / information for each place.

Hi, we are doing a day trip from Ljubljana, and want to do the Postonja Caves, Predjama Castle, and Piran. I know we can get a combo ticket for the caves and castle. I was thinking we could get an early start from Ljubljana and hit either the caves or the castle on the way down to Piran, then lunch in Piran, and hit the caves or the castle on the way back to Llubljana (whichever one we didn't see on the way down). Is this too much for one day? How long does it take to tour the castle? Is it guided or self-tour? It looks like the caves take about 2.5 hours, leaving every hour. Any advice about when the caves are most crowded? If we do as described above, would it be better to see the caves in the morning and castle in the afternoon or the other way around? thank you so much for any thoughts on this!

I did all three in one day and yes, it was a long day but worth it! Didn't rush anything and still managed to spend a decent amount of time at the caves and the castle with a few hours in Piran. In hindsight I should have... More
