A mighty medieval fortress, a symbol of the Slovenian capital Ljubljana is an interesting tourist point, the idyllic grounds for long strolls just a glance away from the lively city centre. The Ljubljana castle offers many cultural, historic and...more
The castle that was "restored" with concrete and glass is more a souvenir shop and restaurant than anything else. No feeling of history is left. I was very glad to have driven up and not walked. Did not buy a castle tour, was too disappointed...More
There is a lot of history to this castle. It sits high atop a hill overlooking Ljubljana. I chose to hike up the steep trail and took the funicular down. If you take your time and go through everything, it takes about a good 90...More
Enjoyed the funicular, but was disapointed in the end result....castle looks lovely from the ground, but there is so much modern "tourist" accomodation at the top that there is not much left of the "historic feeling" of the castle....

If you’re visiting Ljubljana I have no idea why you wouldn’t go see the castle. Great views from there, great history and also has a funicular to get you up and down if you need the assistance or just don’t want to walk the steep...More
One can't come to ljubljana without making the effort to come up to the top of the tower, the views are panoramic with the whole city below you. The castle is a modern recreational space well used for weddings, concerts and dining

If you are fit enough , go up the clock tower , when you get to the top , great views of the cityMore

Ok you can use the funicular, but walking up the castle rewards you with stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains. Worth going even up the main tower with the tower clock that you can see from the old town. The restaurant inside the...More
Reached by funicular (10E including the ride, seniors 7) the castle has been extensively rebuilt over the years and the main reason to visit is the view from one of the towers. The admission system is convoluted, don’t buy the extras for exhibits etc. unless...More
