At an altitude of 1611 metres, the mountain pass at Vrsic is the highest in the eastern Julian Alps and provides a natural link between the Savska and the Soska valleys. You may wish to have a relaxing cup of coffee or even stay the night at the Ticarjev mountain hut, which is located at the top of the pass. There are five mountain huts on Vrsic offering you rest and refreshment. Just off the main road winding up Vrsic, at an altitude of around 1200 metres rests the Russian chapel. Whilst ascending Vrsic, you can admire the natural rock-carved face of the lovely maiden Ajdovska deklica and a natural rock-window created in the face of the Prisank mountain.

We last came up here two years ago and in early April. This season seems much more advanced now than then, with far less snow and many more flowers but apparently more snow is anticipated. The places along the way that offered refreshment didn't appear to be open when we last came through but most seemed to be operating now... More

The best way to come to Vršič is to walk. From hereyou have a lot of possibilities to go to Mountains. On the top you have a few cottages where you can rest, eat or sleep.

We took the memorable drive over the Vrsic pass in the middle of summer. It's a gorgeous drive and once you take the right turn in Kranjska Gora heading south, or Bovec heading north, you basically can't get lost if you stay on the main road. The road is narrow, and takes lots of attention to drive through the hairpin... More

Vrsic pass in Triglav National Park in Slovenia is a beautiful area. The Julian Alps rival those that we are more familiar with. The drive is a bit challenging, but if you take your time (and you should) it is very much worth it. Gorgeous views around every turn, and many places to pull off and take a closer look.

This is a pass I am very familiar with as I have cycled up here many times but this time I drove up and took a walk into the snow alone. The views are stunning. It was a little slippy but if you are used to walking then don't let that concern you. This is a great place to cycle... More

We highly recommend driving here. The road is not easy to drive but the view is heavenly. And at Vrsic mountain pass the view is the best. Note that the restaurant there only has beer and soup (or so it was when we were there) and using the toilet costs 0.50€ (although no one checks if you paid).

We drove this road in the Autumn, lots of trees with golden leaves, no other tourists or tour busses, absolutely stunning on a clear day. Loads of short to long hiking excursions available. Highly recommended if you're comfortable driving hairpins!

Trip through the Julian Alps on a coach. Russian church en route. Coach driver needs nerves of steel as the hairpin bends are tight to negotiate.
