Interesting bit of history about dairy farming and cheesemaking in the Slovenian Alps

This is a small museum dedicated to the men and some women that tended herds in the Slovenian Alps and then milked the cows and made cheese under very primitive conditions. It... read more

This is a small museum dedicated to the men and some women that tended herds in the Slovenian Alps and then milked the cows and made cheese under very primitive conditions. It was quite interesting to better understand how they did it and how they lived for the many weeks and months that they were in the high mountains in... More

The museum is located in the old dairy, about 50 meters from the main road. It is very small and compact, and we were the only guests there. 15-30 minutes are enough to get the general impression from the place, which is well kept.

We enjoyed our visit to this museum. The process of cheese making is explained and old tools are on display, the history and the life of the people living up there. It's open only between 10-12h and 16-18h, and it's small so you don't need a lot of time to get through it but I'd recommend it if you are... More

These few rooms aren't meant to compete with a full-blown museum; it provides a localized look at a very specific activity. Our tour group of 24 probably strained the physical limitations of the actual space, as most of the time all of us could neither hear the narrative nor view the exhibit being discussed. Fortunately, each exhibit had a nice... More

We were allowed in with our Bohinj Tourist card free and only because they were waiting for a party to attend. The museum closes at 12 noon. It is interesting and there are lots of implements showing how cheese was made with descriptions in English. For my companion it was an introduction to cheese making I enjoyed seeing the small... In our spending of time, while been in Bohinj municipality, one day we unexpectedly ran at one rural house in the surrounding little garden, representing the Museum of Alpine Dairy Farming. Just as one villager's, rural house it lured us to get in and see what was this museum like. And we were pleasantly surprised since we found it as... More

This lillle (three room) museum commemorates a way of life which has ended within living memory. One room is a reconstructed mountain hut, dismantled in the hills and rebuilt in the museum. There's also a collection of cheese making and other implements. Worth a visit if you have half an hour to fill.

Mostly old photos with Slovenian and English test, but lots of old cheese making and alpine living displays including the interior of an old chalet. I learned much more here than in a similiar museum in Zermatt.
