Neighbourhood: Josefov
Josefov houses Prague’s Jewish community. This small neighbourhood centered around Široká street is completely surrounded by Staré Město (Old Town). As the former Jewish Ghetto, today all that remains are a few synagogues and the oldest surviving Jewish cemetery in Europe. The narrow streets were once small enough that a person could touch the houses on both sides. You can still feel the dignity and history this neighbourhood carries in its legacy as Franz Kafka’s birthplace. Nearby streets are full of kosher restaurants, museums and antique bookstores.

A part of Jewish museum
Feb 2020
The ceremonial hall of the Prague Jewish Funeral Society is now used as an exhibition for the Jewish Museum in Prague. The building is a fine example of the Romanesque style. In 1997, the State Hall was reconstructed. The exposition introduces us to the Jewish rituals performed on the dying and the dead. Here you can also find information about the Old Jewish Cemetery.

the must

If you are a Jew like me and know at least basic customs and traditions (and history of European Jews too) then all displayed in synagogues and ceremonial hall won't be so interesting , although I do think that this is the must to visit all places included in tour/ticket. The Pinkas synagogue with memorial of Shoah victims and childrens drawings from Terezin ghetto were the most impressive and breathtaking experience, I cried a lot. Old Jewish cemetery was very calm and this probably was the only one place where I really found audioguide to be useful.
PS. Was shocked when spanish tourist asked me to take her photo on the cemetery in front of old tombs. I didn't know such arrogant people exist. Please don't do this, and Synagogues along with Ceremonial hall is not a good place for selfies either. Prague is pretty enough and has a lot of beautiful places for photos.

Thank you for your review. Price, from our point of view, corresponds to the uniqueness of the visited sites, is on par with the admission to other major European cultural heritage. Ticket includes several buildings including the unique exposures in most of them, you can use it for 7 days. The Jewish Museum in Prague is a private institution that fully funds its operations - not only an exhibition, but also educational, publishing, scientific and archival work. A large part of the revenue is used for the care of the world's unique collection of museums, is spent on the repair and reconstruction of historic buildings in the area of Prague's former Jewish Town.

If you are interested in seeing all the key historic sites you can purchase a combined ticket for all of them. This is what we did and visited them all during the week we were in Prague.
Each historic site was different in "intensity" with the first one we visited setting the tone for our whole trip. It was one of the smaller synagogues and it was practically devoid of any furniture. What it had was white wall after white wall covered with names of the Prague Jews that were transported to the death camps. The inscription included the date of birth so you could see the age range of the individuals.
My wife came out of that place holding back the emotion and said nothing to each other for at least 10 minutes as we walked away from the site.

The whole Jewish quarter is well worth a visit whatever you religion as it gives the history of the Czech Jews over the centuries and particularly the Holocaust. The cemetery is amazing - I shall say no more as don't want to spoil the impact. The museums and various synagogues included in the ticket are interesting particularly the Old-New Synagogue

Aside the museum, there are number of historic sites including the Maisel, Pinkas, and Klausen synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery. All located within a block of each other in Old Town. One of the highlights of our visit, and I am not jewish....

We had looked forward to visiting this museum. Payed the expensive ticket prices, only to find you had to pay even more for audio guides. Wish we hadn't bothered very dull commentary, and didn't add anything to the experience. The Spanish synagogue is closed but no reduction in ticket price. Museum is situated over several different buildings difficult to find start point. Staff very rude and unhelpful. Jewish cemetery and Pinkas synagogue very moving. Sadly have to say I dont reccomend this museum, certainly at the price charged.

We opted for a private family tour and it was worth it. It’s important to understand the history of this site. The Spanish Synagogue was closed unfortunately.

Well worth a visit
Sep 2019
We visited the museum a few months ago whilst on a trip here and would thoroughly recommend that you visit. Its based across several synagogues in the Jewish Quarter of the city and also envelopes the Jewish Cemetery. The walls of one synagogue are painted with the names of those from the Czech Republic who were deported as part of the Nazi persecution, with the date of the deportion and the date of their death. You could quite easily spend a day in this synagogue alone tracking peoples' stories once they were taken from their homes. In another, you will find drawings from the children living in Terezin, one of the Nazi camps which was used as a propaganda tool. You will then go into other synagogues which will teach you all about Jewish traditions and milestones in life. The museum is fascinating in all ways, I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Bonjour, nous sommes un couple et serons à Prague dans 15 jours, j'aimerais savoir s'il est possible d'acheter une entrée uniquement pour la visite du cimetière ? Est-il ouvert le samedi et le dimanche ? A quel prix ? Katy

Does anyone know if there is a cloak room or anything? We are wanting to go tomorrow but are worried as we will have two small suitcases and feel like it will be disrespectful to pull them around and make a lot of noise, just wondering if there is anywhere safe we could leave them there?

Hi, I have placed my order for tickets online using their e-shop and now have an email with a link to pay by credit card. The email suggests (in Czech) that my order will be processed within 5 business days and sent to my postal address! However, the order form suggested that tickets should be downloaded and printed. There is not time for them to be posted and received at my home address, does anyone know if they are actually posted or whether they can be downloaded and printed? Thanks in anticipation..
