About
The most significant square of historical Prague, it was founded in the 12th century and has been witness to many historical events. In addition to the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the square is dominated by the Baroque Church of St Nicholas, the Rococo Kinský Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the monument to Jan Hus. In the pavement of the square are memorial stones marking the execution of 27 Czech lords in 1621, and the Prague meridian.

Neighbourhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

A beautiful, big square with the view of some of the most important historical sights Prague has to offer, such as the Old Town Hall. One of the biggest attractions in Prague so expect a lot of tourists, crowds, and high prices of everything. On the other hand, it is a must see because this place is simply stunning, especially if you are a foreigner. My last visit was in December when the famous Christmas markets were taking place and I was surprised at the low number of visitors (it was early afternoon not on a weekend). The Christmas markets are a must see as well, with beautiful wooden stands offering many traditional as well as the newest treats, rich cultural program and the biggest Christmas tree and light decorations.

The Old Town Square is a magical place, especially during the Christmas Market which was on when we attended. The square is located between Wenceslas Square and the Charles Bridge, both of which will show up in future posts. The Jan Hus Memorial in the Old Town Square celebrates Jan Hus who was burned at the stake for his reformation beliefs on Jan. 6, 1415. The square also contains the Church of Our Lady before Týn and St. Nicholas Church.
The Prague Astronomical Clock is a medieval astronomical clock attached to the Old Town Hall. The clock was first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest clock still in operation.

It is a stunning old town in Prague with lots of beautiful old buildings. It has the old European charm that you will enjoy.
The Astronomical clock is there and people just gather there for the strike on the hour every hour. The square is magical and charming. There are lots cafes and restaurants which make it a bit too commercial.

Honestly, before going to Prague, I found Prague "meh" compared to other European cities most likely because it is totally different from the countries west of it on top of it using a different currency than the rest of the EU.
But as soon as I stepped foot on this square, all those doubts and hesitations were immediately wiped off. The buildings that surround it such as Our Lady of Tyn Church, and Prague Astronomical Clock among others complement the square. Especially during the time of my visit where a Christmas market was active. It's clear Czech Republic is giving German a run for their money when it comes for Christmas markets.
After this visit, Prague shoots up to probably the Top 4 in Europe. It's THAT iconic. It is as beautiful and magical as more visited European cities such as London, Paris, and Rome.
What are you waiting for? Book a trip to Prague!

The fact that the Christmas Markets in Prague run until the first week of January is genius. The Staromestske Namesti as the backdrop only added to the romance.

I'd like to visit both the Old Town Square and Charles Bridge early in the morning before they get crowded, so I can take some uncrowded photos. Would it be best to visit Old Town Square earlier or Charles Bridge earlier to take best advantage of lack of crowds (I'd be visiting both the same morning, just need to figure out the best order). Also how early is a good time to show up? Being there for the clock show won't be necessary as we'll see it another day. This is mainly for basic photography, possibly including sunrise if I make it that early in September (sunrise is close to 7am). Thanks!

The photos from Charles Bridge should be beautiful, especially when it’s quiet. To be certain, It probably is best to go there first and then on to Old Square. Before 8 a.m. the Square should not be too crowded either. Prague is beautiful, I hope you have a wonderful time, just as we did.

Pozdrawiam:)
