About
Every country has its symbols and legends and the Czech ones include Pilsner Urquell lager which has been brewed in a town called Plzen (Pilsen) since 1842. Since then the fame of Pilsner Urquell beer has spread around the world and, inspired by this exceptional brew, more than two-thirds of the beers produced today are commonly known as pils, pilsner or pilsener. The brewery tour showcases all of the authentic places where Pilsner Urquell lager has been brewed for more than 175 years, and where its story continues today. You will see the heart of the brewery - both the historical and contemporary brewhouse. You will smell and taste the raw materials that are used to brew Pilsner Urquell, and the panoramic cinema will take you through the brewing process. And at the end you will taste unfiltered Pilsner Urquell beer tapped straight from oak lager barrels in the historic brewery cellars. The brewery is open year-round. The journey from Prague takes about one-and-a-half hours and you can either travel on your own by car, bus or train.

You can't miss this place when you are in Pilsner

Great experience. Finally I understand how beer is made. The tour guide had nice English, was very pleasant and gave us a lot of interesting information about the concrete beer and brewery, and also about beer making in general.
There is good souvenir shop at the end of the tour. Me and my friend spent basically the same time there as we spent at the tour guide. There is a possibility of buying a beer glass and letting the shop assistant crave custom text on it. A perfect souvenir for you and your friends!

Save your Money for Real Beers at Local Pubs
Aug 2021
I have visited some of the most important European breweries in different countries. I can say that this one was by far the worst of them, although it is the city's number one attraction.
First of all, your are obliged to go with a guide. Second of all, they show things you see in all breweries. There is no interaction, no tasting of the raw material, no toys for children, no amazing screens for the visitors, ... anyway, I suggest you use the money of the tour ticket to buy your beer in local pubs.

Great English tour!
Aug 2021 • Couples
This was by far the most clean and well organized brewery we’ve ever visited (and we do this A LOT). Great guide, thanks Renáta. Everything well explained, English was very good and overall a great experience.

Must do in Pilsen
Sep 2020
The highlight of my time in Pilsen was the tour inside the brewery! Our guide Elizabeth was funny and very knowledgable, the beer tasting was just superb and the gift shop has some cool merch. If you go to Pilsen, you must do this tour.

Fascinating
Sep 2020 • Couples
A fascinating tour which lasts about 80 minutes and a glass of beer included in the ticket price. The English tour didn't start till 12.30 so we booked the German one at 11.15 (don't do it if you can't speak German). We had an hour to kill so walked to the town square (5 minutes), enjoyed the Saturday market, had a coffee and went back for the tour.

Very interesting and informative brewery tour.
Aug 2020 • Couples
We booked our tickets on line the day before and our visit.
We arrived with plenty of time to spare and waited in the spacious waiting area for our tour to begin.
Our tour guide was very informative and humorous.
The big lift was great!
Going down to the cool cellars was very welcoming on a very hot day.
We enjoyed tasting the unpasteurised and unfiltered beer, tasty.
In the waiting area you will find a machine where you can make your own postcards which is a great thing to do!
Highly recommended this tour.

Must visit
Jul 2020
This is a must visit for everyone who come to Plzen and loves beer. The tour takes about 1,5-2 hours but it is definitely worthy (even more for students, they have a big discount)! I recommend wearing something warm, because the cellar is very cold.

Interesting and educational
Jul 2019
I went in April of 2018 and I enjoyed it. At the time I was around 11 and it was the tour was in Czech. As I speak the language, I understood everything (despite being born and raised in an English speaking country), and found there wasn't a need for a prior knowledge of breweries or beer. It was interesting, and I enjoyed seeing all of the machinery, and photography at the time was allowed.
If you plan on bring children with you, they will be relatively entertained (I'd say age 10+), however, they might get tired after an hour or so, or if they aren't interested in all of the displays and intricate metal everywhere. There is also quite a bit of walking. We went there as a favour from one of the staff who my parents know. There was a tasting which I think is included in the ticket price.
There is also a restaurant opposite the reception that offers Czech cuisine, but also has sells chips if your child isn't one for trying new foods. There is also a gift shop with plenty of merch, including magnets if you are a collector. Obviously take my experiences with a grain of salt considering I went a couple of years ago, and I don't know how much has changed. I think it might be helpful in reading a then pre-teen's experience.

bonjour ,

Does the brewery tour also include the underground ??
Or do we need to get separate tickets for each?

Hi! The tour includes all aspects of the brewery, including the underground, a beer tasting, the processing plant, and ends in the gift shop. It was very enjoyable. Book your tickets in advance would be my word of advice to you. Enjoy! Prost!--

Is the tour a little bit interesting for kids age 5 and 3? Or is it better to do the tour without them?
Joachim N

For those who are interested, we took the tour with our children and it was actually very good to with them! The answer the kids will disturb the tour is totally dependent how you involve them. So, when kids want to learn, the tour is good with kids.
