Go in the attic!
Jan 2020
The best part of this visit (after seeing the middle grizzly and fascinating relics) was the attic walk through the rafter in the dark and dimly lit roof space across the vaulted ceiling.

Cool Cathedral to visit!!
Sep 2019
The beautiful Cathedral of Our Lady in Sedlec is a UNESCO World Heritage site! A short walk from the Sedlec Ossuary it is worth a quick visit!! Go up the spiraling staircase to see how the old roof was constructed. Never ceases to amaze me at the workmanship that was put into these buildings....

Amazing Cathedral
Oct 2019 • Couples
When you enter and after you pay you are given a sheet in English that describes the highlights. There is a spiral staircase that allows you to go upstairs and see how the roof of the cathedral was made. There is a nice pipe organ and relics displayed in glass cases. Amazing frescoes on the wall as well
Overall worth a short visit

Well worth a visit.

The Church of the Assumption of Our Lady and Saint John the Baptist is a cathedral and UNESCO building in Kutna Hora. It’s about 5 minutes walk from the much more popular and touristy Sedlec Ossuary. It’s also a lot quieter than the ossuary, which makes a visit much more enjoyable.

When you enter the church, you get a placard detailing the main points of interests of the interiors and there’s also descriptions on the boards just after the ticket office with lots of history of the church.

Inside, the church is a Czech Gothic design, mixing tate Gothic with Baroque and the distinctive intertwined ribbed vaults characteristic of Czech Gothic. Much of the church was only restored in the early 2000s and the side chapels are mostly bare. The high altar is richly decorated with a beautiful Baroque painting of the Assumption on the ceiling above. Flanking the front of the high altar are shrines of St Felix and St Vincent. The side chapel worth seeing are the Chapel 14 helpers in Indigence and the Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Sedlec, both of which are richly decorated in Baroque and for me the highlights of the visit.

One of the nice features of the church is a chance to climb to the upper balcony which takes you through the attic area before leading into the balcony proper. The stairwell up to the balcony are beautifully designed with a spiral shape and the attic area has a mini exhibition.

Well worth a visit.

Be sure to tour attic
Oct 2019
The cathedral happened to be free the day we visited. While the inside of the cathedral is not as elaborate as others we viewed during our trip, it had good panels explaining the art work (and the restoration process) and the building. One of the unique aspects, you are able to climb up a spiral staircase and walk through the attic. You get to see the top of the columns and the construction of the roof - a different perspective and very interesting.

An UNESCO listed Cathedral and Ossuary,Sedlec
Sep 2019 • Couples
Having stayed in Kutna Hora we visited this beautiful Cathedral.
Magnificent!
Started to build in the 12th century for Cistercian monks. It has been rebuilt several times throughout the centuries.
Beautifully restored for its former glory.
Visitors can explore it on their own space.
A printed guide in different languages can be asked at the entry.
It’s just a couple of minute-walk from the church of Bones, Ossuary which is also a unique church.
Both are must-see attractions in Kutna Hora.

We went early 0930 but only a few people and us. Worth the ticket and stop. Walking through the attic was cool.
