Karlovy Vary_the springs of Charles in Czech language_is a spa city, about 100 km from Prague! It was founded by the Czech king Charles IV in 1358 and It's famous for his springs and thermal water which have healed many celebrities like Goethe_the German poet_Peter the Great_the Russian Tsar_and Franz Iozef, the emperor of the Austrian Empire came often here for a walk on the promenade of this beautiful city! Also, every year, a lot of movie stars came here for a film festival established by the Czech director, Milos Forman. I'm glad I decided to see this city, even for one day trip, I can say it was love at first sight!.........so, have a nice walk on the promenade!

The wrong touch
Apr 2019
Why put this in a modern and very ugly building when the whole city is full of wonderful buildings? The whole concept is just wrong and in lack of style. Overrated.

Modern colonnade
Mar 2018 • Solo
This is the most modern of all the colonnades in the city and is made of concrete and glass which takes away some of its charm. It is fully enclosed which is great during inclement weather. It also features the hottest springs and a geyser.

Relaxing holiday
Nov 2018
Karlovy Vary is a nice place for relaxing and easy going holiday. The unique part is the thermal spring water which is the main attraction and also the spa. The whole place can easily visited by walking along and the weather also nice in November. Food are quite nice especially those grilled hot sausage. Shopping is heaven over there and overall two nights stay are incredible.

Newest & Biggest
Jun 2018 • Couples
Completed in 1975 this is the newest and biggest (perhaps unnecessarily so) hot spring colonnade not only in the town but in the Czech Republic. A number of drinking points the colonnade has a cafe and souvenir shops and gives access - on the first floor - to the underground tour. The hot water fountain outside is like a man made geyser.

Under repair noe

Unfortunately now main geyser is closed, so you have just a dull standard concrete structure. Buy a “rusty” rose from the souvenir shop

Best known spa town in the Czech Rep. Well worth a day trip from Prague.

Do not book a coach trip here, GO BY TRAIN FROM PRAGUE. Its easy and much much cheaper. The train ( bound for Cheb ), follows the Vltava River for the first hour giving you fantastic views all the way to Usti where it will then start to climb up to K.V. travelling through farmland, open cast coalmines, past many power stations before heading into the hills on to border with and close to Germany. K.V. is twinned with Baden Baden. From the station ( there is a map )you can walk for 10 mins or catch the bus to the Info Centre along the street Masaryka to pick up a map. From here on walking is the best option. K.V. is the most famous spa town in the Czech Republic which has many 14thC buildings as well as more modern ones from the 19th and 20th C. Apart from its 16 springs, gardens and beautiful colonnades, it has many bars and restaurants. The most famous spring is the Sprudel which can leap up to 12ms. You must buy your K.V. souvenir jug and taste the water. K.V. is also known for its Moser crystal, Carlsbad porcelain and the Czech herb liqueur Becherovka. Tip buy your train ticket from Prague's main station at Hlavni Nadrazi the day before and ask for the times of the trains there and back. ( price £30 return ? coach trip £65 )

Visit all colonnades. They seem the same, they are different and interesting. Travel on foot and at every step you have what to see. Everything is brightly colored and full of life
