Is this the most convenient town square in Europe?
Apr 2021
This is a great town square, it's within walking distance to great restaurants, parks, the winter stadium with ice-skating as well as a ten-minute walk to a mall with cinema's etc...

You won't find McDonalds or KFC here, they're also walking distance if you need them, rather this square remains a very authentic Czech hub, which is widely utilised by the locals and not as much of a theme park as many other city centres.

There are regular markets held in and around the square and they have a fantastic Christmas market too.

If you're with children, there is a great large play area in the park, less than 5 minutes walk away, next to an indoor and outdoor swimming pool with water slides etc... for the summer.

There are outdoor movie theatres, the planetarium and of course pubs with beer gardens, serving local and international cuisine and loads of Czech beers.

Language can sometimes be a challenge for more complicated conversations, but I find that most Czechs in the hospitality industry will understand food and drink orders and the younger the person, the more likely they are to have a good grasp of English as there are now a whole host of English Language schools in the area.

Overall the City and the Square are off the main tourist routes, but all the more authentic for that.

Very spacious square with wonderful fountain and fairy tailish houses surrounding it! Number one place to visit in České Budějovice.

Quiet little town.

In the middle of the city, don’t miss it if you just stop by for few hours. You can park in the square and spare some time to walk nearby.

Unecessary cars and missing trees
Jan 2020
One thing in Ceske Budejovice that you can't miss. The place is situated right in the middle of historical center with a lot of cafés, restaurants, city hall, information center, etc. Be aware that everything at the place is quite expensive, but that's very typical for city centers.
I liked the fact that there is a lot of stands for bikes. The thing that I didn't like was the fact that there were also a lot of cars driving at the square - the place has the road at the edge of the square. This I find almost dangerous and I would prefer not to see the cars there at all. Another thing that I would like to point out are missing trees. I think they would be excellent at the main square and they could be planted there instead of the cars...

My favorite square, town hall
Dec 2019
I have been to this square many times. So lovely when covered by snow but doesn’t happen often.
This time around Christmas and a Christmas market.
If you want the best view then go up the tower and watch.mh
In this time of the year you must go in warm clothes to sit, drink and listen to music and forget the life problems!

Great place to spend some time out. Try to find "wandering stone" near the fountain if you are coming back home late as a reason for whose who are waiting you 😊

AT THE CENTRE OF EVERYTHING
Jul 2019
The Square is the central attraction of Ceske Budejovice and Samson’s Fountain is set in the middle. The surrounding buildings are in a range of architectural styles including Czech Baroque. They provide hotels and bars/restaurants catering for visitors. It is surrounded by a number of well- preserved streets and points of interest to visitors are all within walking distance. When we were there in July, there was live music in the Square on some evenings: high quality jazz and rock by local bands. The chiming clocks – especially the new Town Hall Carillon – make a visit on the hour that bit more enjoyable.
