About
Molly Gallivan’s cottage and traditional farm invites you to take a step back in time to experience the simple country lifestyle in rural Ireland before the days of electricity and modern conveniences. Molly’s enchanting cottage is over 200 years old and her farm is complete with animals, fowl and traditional farm machinery. Molly’s old Tea Shop is very unique in Ireland, here you will taste locally made foods cooked and baked in the traditional fashion. We also hold traditional Irish evenings at Molly Gallivan’s cottage, these are nights of Irish food, music, song, dance and story telling, re-enacting the old customs that took place in Irish homes. Advanced booking is required for our Traditional Irish Evenings please contact us for availability and prices.

- FrankEaringVictoria, Canada11 contributionsWhiskey in the jarAs close as you get to a slice of Ireland’s past… with an excellent gift store. Small, detailed, “curated”, authentic with a great sense of mischievous humour and genuine respect for the past. I loved visiting this working farm and tourist “experience”. A family run business with beautiful, locally-crafted wares (wool, linen and Poteen!) for sale, Molly Gallivan’s is a strong link to a near mythical past… and as close as the modern day adventurer gets motoring through in a Mercedes bus. Well worth a visit and if you get a sunny day, the surrounding countryside is Simply breathtaking.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 9 October 2023
- Maggie B29 contributionsWouldn’t have missed it!What a wonderful insight into life and times in centuries past. Being in the actual cottage and adjoining buildings brought home, the reality of the challenges. Molly and her family must have faced. Wonderfully entertained by Molly’s descendants and in spite of the weather had a great time. Definitely a highlight of our Back Roads Tour.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 October 2023

Steven and his family have such a delightful business with the most hospitality I’ve ever experienced. We did the full whiskey tour story telling of Molly. This is the home of Molly and her 3rd generation ancestor's have made it such a wonderful place to visit. Make the effort to stop by and visit.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 14 October 2023

- Jeni R24 contributionsA Grand day at Molly’sMolly’s is a wonderful view of a live working farm from early 1800 in Ireland. Steve and his family truly keep the history and spirit of Ireland alive. The cottages are original and this is one of the very few places to get a true handmade Irish sweater with the Irish wool. This is a beautiful ride to get to, a grand time to be had when there and a small sadness when it’s time to go.Visited October 2023Travelled on businessWritten 15 October 2023

- Jennifer C2 contributionsFantastic and Unique ExperienceSteve and Frances were not only amazing hosts, but they took us back in time as we sat in the little cottage and watched Frances make bread to cook in the hearth. Then Mike offered us a taste Poitin as we learned about the incredible Molly Gallivan and with what courage and creativity she kept her family going amidst tough times. The best part was lunch in the converted barn--delicious homemade soup and bread on a rainy day and Mike sang us some Irish songs. Great experience and would definitely recommend visiting!Visited October 2023Travelled on businessWritten 27 November 2023
- LizsherbeckMedley, Florida4 contributionsLinks to the pastWe chose the Traditional Irish evening experience to do with my 14 and 12 year old. It included a guided tour around the grounds, demonstrations, dinner, traditional Irish music and dance. It was a great experience for us all. Stephen is so knowledgeable and shares the information in a way that makes you want to hear more. Just seeing the places helped the history sink in for my kids. The bread making demonstration really brought the whole experience together too - a link to the past. Dinner was yummy and it was very cosy and enjoyable. Everyone is warm and welcoming. We also loved the gift shop! We would love to do it again if we’re ever in the area.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 22 January 2024
- John Y427 contributionsMust visit!I wasn't really sure what to expect, but this place was truly worth the visit. Our group got there a little late so we didn't get to roam the farm, but we got to see the farmhouse and learn the history of Molly Gallivan from her family, that still runs the place. It gave good insight into how difficult life was in the 1800's. They also demonstrated how to make brown bread and poitín (think moonshine). We then had an excellent 3 course meal in their dining hall, complete with Irish music, dancing, and storytelling. #CIETours, you need to make this a regular stop. It was an excellent time! The food and service were amazing, and the entertainment was exceptional! They even had some nice shopping!Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 30 January 2024
- Jess Y6 contributionsGreat History and Amazing ExperienceWe were visiting Ireland in the off season when Molly's is typically closed. We worked through CIE Tours for our personalized group trip, and the family agreed to open up for us for the evening. We had a group of 26 total. Stephen and Frances, along with their daughter and niece were such gracious hosts. The history was really fun to learn about and it was a truly traditional experience where you felt like you stepped back in time. They prepared an amazing meal for our group - every bit of it home made. We had one individual with food allergies and they were careful to prepare a separate meal for him that he found incredible - as did the others that got to taste it. It was one of our friend's birthday and they baked her a cake and came out singing with candles and everything. They really went out of their way to welcome us and make it a great evening. I can't recommend Molly's enough. Take the trip, enjoy the history, and learn a lot.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 4 February 2024

Visited here at the end of Aug with our 3 girls, 10,8 and 4. We had lovely tea and scones to start with in this unique setting that brings you back in time. The owners and staff were very warm and welcoming. There is so much history in this place and the audio visual at the beginning explains it all in a very interesting and easy to understand manner. The experience is family friendly with farm animals to mingle with and feed. The gift shop has lots of local crafts and produce. It is in a lovely setting, with lovely views. One of the highlights of our staycation. I highly recommend visiting.

We stopped at Molly Gallvins purely by chance and we were well surprised. We spent some time in the well-stocked shop and then we went around the visitor center. It really displays what live would have been like many years ago and it was very entertaining at the same time. There are some beautiful views and hikes to start from this hidden gem. If you’re in area, make sure you stop by!

Wow, Molly’s was such an unexpected delight for us! We stumbled upon it while travelling from Bantry to Portmagee. The old farmhouse is just so beautiful and we originally stopped just to get a snack from the tea rooms. Unknown to us there was a lovely gift shop and a farm walk around which we took full advantage of! I was so delighted to have a cuddle with the lambs and donkeys and the story of Molly was an interesting insight into how people used to live. The whole experience was so lovely and the scenery just stunning. I was so delighted with patting the lambs that they even gave me a bottle to go back up and give them some milk which was such a delight! Even as someone that grew up on a farm! Afterwards we had tea and the best ever scones and guiness cake outside. The staff were just so lovely and the whole experience amazing. A quick food stop turned into the best unplanned 1.5 hours of our day. It was just such a lovely experience and we are so glad we had the time to make the pit stop. Definitely one to check out if you are in the area!

What a wonderful place! What wonderful owners and family! When it was suggested we stop at Molly Gallivan's on our group tour it was met with mild enthusiasim. Living farm? Boy did that change right out of the bus! The history and stories from Stephen about the family owned farm were magical. The friendliness and helpfulness of the family throughout the venue was heart-warming. Watching a couple young sheep follow us to be fed by bottle was hysterical.
It's really hard to describe but this is a must for anyone to stop at on your adventure in Ireland. Do not think "just a farm", do not think "really a family farm, living history, how boring" - it is so much more than that and once you experience it, listen to the stories I mean really listen, make your way around and meet the animals, enjoy and hear the laughter at the puns Stephen subtly drops here and there, try the home made brew, model a sweater or wrap or a hat, look at the quality woolens, eat some ice cream and when you are done wish there was more in your dish, I promise you will feel like you are back in time amongst friends and family. Stop! Look! Listen and Live! One of my top favorite stops on our 10 day tour of Ireland!

Delightful stop while we drove around the Ring of Beara. Quaint cottage from the outside, we were greeted by a staff member who gave us a quick and informative historical background for both the cottage and the famous original occupant. There is a small historical museum area to explore, some food and snack options, and an assortment of gifts and clothing items that just “keeps on going” out the back door into other buildings and open areas. Selection and Prices, when compared to our overall 2 weeks shopping experience, were very reasonable. Definitely worth a stop!

We were a group of 24 and were very accommodated. The owners are delightful and very knowledgeable on the history of land. Molly Gallivan is a direct descendant of the family, so it made it that much more personable. We learned all about the making of poitin and living off the land. The dinner they provided was a wonderful Irish meal and along with it entertainment from the family (singing, dancing and storytelling).
the gift shop was beautifully laid out and had a large variety of Irish items to purchase including pottery form local artists. I would highly recommend it.

This stop seemed at first like an excellent shop for all things Irish, made in Ireland too. However, as we walked up the hill behind the building we realized that we were touring the life of 1850s Ireland with tiny stone cottage ruins, a peat bog and views over the Sheen Valley with the Barra-But on the highest peak. We walked far enough to view the huge stones placed there 5,000 years ago to mark the summer solstice and other important solar calendar dates. it was quite remarkable to find such a ruin "hidden within plain sight".
If you are lucky enough you will also stay for dinner. The meal is traditional but not a giant banquet meal. Instead anticipate excellentl food cooked in the original manner. Plus there is honey mead and stories and dance, just as it would have been had you stopped there to support the widow Molly Gallivan. The owner and his family are related to Molly Gallivan and enjoy providing you with the many rich details that will make history come alive. Thank you for a wonderful evening. I am fortunate enough to have visited Ireland eight times. Each trip, I have seen the most beautiful views and have experienced all types of incredible events. This family visit to Molly Gallivan’s tops all of the places we have visited in Ireland. It’s what I would consider a dream come true business run by a family that clearly loves what they do and loves working together. Stephen, who conducts the tour, is extremely knowledgeable and informative while also being highly entertaining. My family learned much from his presentations that we hadn’t learned elsewhere. Molly Gallivan’s is a lovely working farm which also includes a gift shop full of gorgeous Irish products, and also includes ancient Neolithic stone sites. Our Taste of Ireland Tour included a tour of the farm where we were able to feed some lambs, view the Neolithic stones, and learn all about what it was like to live in Ireland when Molly would have run the farm many years ago. The tour was followed by a wonderful traditional dinner, while Stephen and his family entertained us with stories, music, song, dancing and jokes. The meal ended with a presentation of how to make Irish coffee (which we were all given a healthy glass of) and the event concluded with a demonstration of how poteen was made, and we were all given a sample during a very fun end of the evening toast. I cannot thank Stephen and his lovely family enough for this most enjoyable evening. My entire family agrees that this was the highlight of our trip. I cannot recommend it more highly.

Stopped off here with the lovely Ursula en route to Schull. What a fabulous spectacular valley!
The premises is most inviting and the owner is a charming chap!
We had homemade scones with jam and butter with tea. Most reasonably priced with excellent outdoor seating where you can enjoy the view as well as the food.
It’s called the Druid’s Valley and well worth a pit stop

We stayed there and walked around. In general it is free to walk along the lanes in the garden. Nearby down The Valley is also Stone fort and stone ring etc. This is a couple of Euro. For us 10 Euro for the whole family.
