Brilliant!
Jul 2021
We booked falconry while staying at Castle Leslie. It was an amazing experience. Brian is friendly, enthusiastic, articulate and so knowledgeable about his birds (owls, hawks and eagles) - we learnt so much from him about the birds, their habits and the environment. The time literally flew by. The birds are fascinating - we felt very lucky to see them up close and handle the owls and hawks - they are awesome creatures. The experience of flying Buddy and Tina the Harris hawks was spectacular -- I hadn't really known what to expect and I'm so glad we booked the session. It's a great activity for teenagers. It's also a super experience for pre-teens -- especially if they have any interest in nature, animals or Harry Potter! I'd been expecting an hour but it was more like 1hr 45 - 2hrs. Thank you Brian & birds!

Spending time with Brian and Newgrange Falconry was truly a highlight of our trip. We have so many wonderful memories of a beautiful day outdoors, in a beautiful place with such amazing birds.

The birds helped me propose
Dec 2020
I had reached out to Newgrange Falconry with an idea and they were more than happy to help.
On the day we met with Brian and he brought myself and my girlfriend up onto a beautiful stretch of land to get a wide view of the coastline and into the gorgeous landscape of county Meath.
We were introduced to a pair of spectacular Golden Eagles. From there we were able to hold a few owls and were given lots of information about them. We have some amazing photos of them perched on our hands. After this we got to meet a Falcon; unfortunately the wind picked up slightly and it was not to best day to fly this particular bird, but last and certainly not least was the hawk.
My plan with Brian came into effect; the Hawk had an engagement ring in a small pouch and flew to my hand, from there I was able to propose.
As a celebration Brian produced homemade Christmas cake and mulled wine for us.
I arrived with a girlfriend, but went home with a fiancée - I would highly recommend it.
Such an enjoyable experience. Thank you Brian

Got to experience all that Brian and Newgrange Falconry had to offer on a recent stay in Castle Leslie, Monaghan.

It truly was a fantastic experience to be able to get so hands on with all the impressive owls, eagles and falcons. Brian was a natural, very friendly, putting us at ease and has a great ability to relay his vast knowledge. A super way to spend a morning , highly recommended.

Unbelievable

This will actually blow your mind as an experience. The team at newgrange are so so knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. We had the most wonderful time with their birds, nothing is so spectacular as seeing the size of a golden eagle up close. If that doesn't do it, then seeing a perfectly trained falcon fly from the trees to your outstretched hand for feeding, certainly will.

They are truly magnificent birds, and the teams passion for their birds of prey is evident from the beginning. Their wanting for their visitors to learn about the birds and interact with them is also wonderful to see, and they come to your hotel to make an amazing day out for families, friends, and business outings alike. You won't be disappointed!

Inventive trip - these guys are amazing

This was an absolutely incredible experience! They had multiple owls, falcons and hawks - and even a golden eagle! We were able to hold several of them (except the eagle - but the owner brought him out for us to see safely). They were incredibly informative about these magnificent raptors, told is what they liked or didn't and if any of the birds seemed nervous or in discomfort they immediately set them back for a break. I had such a great time, it was fantastic!

A wonderful experience

I booked the experience while at Powerscourt hotel, and was a little hesitant as it was pricey. But afterwards I felt it was well worth it. Me and my aunt got up close and personal with several types of birds, to include my favorite a white barn owl named Tiny. In my head I renamed him hedwig the second. Brian allowed us for several photo ops with the birds. The only ones we didn't get to hold were the golden eagles, and I was happy to admire them from some distance. It was obvious how much Brian cared for his birds. The best part for me was being able to fly the birds to include walking along as they'd land on my arm and then send them flying again. Overall it was a great experience and I would do it again.

From 1 Falconer to Another - this is an experience you don’t want to miss!

I connected with Newgrange Falconry over Instagram, and when I had the chance to visit Ireland a few days ago, I had the privilege of doing one of their falconry experiences.

I am actually a general licensed falconer here in the United States, so I am a little more critical than the average tourist when it comes to falconry related experiences. However, the condition, health, and attitude of Carl and Brian’s birds blew me away. They are healthy and in top-feather condition – not a single feather on any of their birds is broken or “tipped” (a term used to describe just the tip of a feather that has broken, most birds have tipped feathers). They are trained incredibly well, and their feet are bright yellow or orange, which is an indicator of a good diet. As a falconer, I can guarantee that if you choose to book an experience with Newgrange, you’ll know that your money is going towards the high-quality care of these birds.

As for the experience, the landscape from the hill that we flew the birds on was absolute magic. Both Brian and Carl were well-versed in the local history and lore of the place, and knowing that you are flying hawks on land that was once used as a ring fort for the Celts 3000 years ago is an experience like no other. Watching Romeo, the saker falcon, stoop to the lure at breakneck speeds with the background of the Irish sea and rolling hills, was absolute magic. I was witnessing a falcon doing what a falcon does best and Ireland doing what Ireland does best – make people never want to leave!

After we finished flying the saker falcon, we took out two harris hawks and proceeded to fly them up and down the row of trees and fence posts. The harris hawks were a joy – sometimes both landing on the same arm for a tidbit of food. They know the system and will put anyone nervous of raptors at ease, as they are very gentle birds.

Brian and Carl love their birds and love sharing their birds. I can promise that if you book an experience with Newgrange Falconry, you will not regret a single penny. As a falconer, who has trained extensively with birds of prey and I have had many experiences with falconry schools / centers, I can promise that Newgrange is THE best one to experience real falconry through.
