About
Temporarily Closed. Kerry Cliffs. Kerry Cliffs are widely accepted as the most spectacular cliffs in Kerry. The cliffs stand over 1000ft above the wild Atlantic and were formed in a desert environment 400 million years ago. Out to the west stand the amazing Skellig Rocks one of only three UNESCO world heritage sites in Ireland. Of course the Kerry Cliffs are the closest viewing point to the great rocks and also the famous Puffin Island. Allied with these facts as you stand at the summit of this mystical place and breath in the freshest of air, deep in to your lungs from the wild Atlantic and observe this natural wonder. You can relax and unwind and observe the majestic views from here which reach out for 30 miles of the surrounding areas. Many Twitchers come here to us to enjoy and observe the thriving colonies of cliff birds. Our cliffs here in Portmagee provide you the opportunity to enjoy this spectacular location in a safe and natural environment. We are located just off the Skellig ring in Portmagee and the cliffs are just a 10 minute walk from our entrance. Also for good measure we have a coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating where you can drink in this marvelous panorama. We can also arrange Boat Trips to Skellig Michael for you.

- KaylaGlassboro, New Jersey172 contributionsWorth the visitDefinitely a highlight on the Ring of Kerry - even in unfavorable weather! We ventured out when the fog & rain were rolling in so only had a brief window of time to view. Even in those conditions it was worth the price to park and visit. Some of the viewpoints do have a pretty steep hill (that I was nearly blown down when escaping the storm) so keep that in mind if you need more accessible viewing. There are some lower viewing points, but the more spectacular views are higher up.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 April 2024
- amanda5805Duncan, Canada7,560 contributionsUnforgettable Beauty!Visiting the Cliffs of Kerry was an absolute highlight! We were pleasantly surprised by the affordable entry fee of just 5 euros pp, and the added bonus of free parking made it even better. The road ways are not wide enough to get big buses to so it made for a less busy stop. What struck us the most was the sheer magnificence of the cliffs. Towering majestically above the Atlantic Ocean, they were more impressive than any other cliffs we had seen, and the fact that they offered such awe-inspiring views at a significantly lower cost made the experience even more rewarding. The Cliffs of Kerry are an absolute must-visit for anyone traveling to the area. Not only are they more impressive than Moher, but they also offer an incredible experience at a fraction of the cost.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 April 2024
- Irene WMelbourne, Australia6 contributionsEqually as impressive as the cliffs of MoherAs part of a boat trip to Skellig islands we were fortunate enough to come back to Portmagee via Kerry Cliffs. What a magnificent site they are. Having walked along the Cliffs of Moher only 2 days prior I would venture that Kerry cliffs are equally as impressive. Having seen them from the sea we will definitely do the walk to explore them in more depth.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 April 2024
- Kobus GSwakopmund, Namibia11 contributionsAmazing views!!!Amazing cliffs with awesome viewpointa to see the cliffs in a whole picture together.. Way more beautifull than cliffs of moher. More interesting to me if you ask my opinion. We went there with my dad that had a knee replacement and the viewpoints was easy to reach. Toilets is close by as well.. Awesome camping spots as well for as little as 20 euro per night. Prices might change. Def a must see!!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 May 2024
- Sara J98 contributionsMust see! Some compare the Kerry Cliffs to Moher and say Kerry is better. I think both need to be seen. They are quite different. Kerry is less touristy and the cliff formations are craggier than that of Moher. Go early and expect changing weather.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 June 2024
- sarahKnaresborough, United Kingdom15 contributionsSpectacular views!! Worth every cent!!Fantastic views of the Kerry Cliffs…. Only paid 5 euros each would easily have paid 15 euros each. The area is well kept and toilets provided which were clean and tidy. The view is spectacular!!Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 19 June 2024
- KyFlynnMunich, Germany2,000 contributionsImpressive views! The Irish coast is truly stunning and there are a lot of viewpoints from where you can see them and take stunning photos! One of them are “Kerry’s most spectacular cliffs”. You can best reach this area by car, and park right in front. It looked like there was a small café as well, but during our visit this one was closed. When you want to walk up to the cliffs, you have to pay for a ticket at a small booth and then continue upwards. After a bit, you can spot a small Beehive village – which shows examples of the Beehive Huts you can actually find on Skellig Michael. A bit higher, you can already see the viewpoints, with a small one in the middle and two larger ones, one on the right and one on the left side. If you visit this area, be mindful that the winds can be quite strong up there, so best be careful. It’s a bit of a climb to reach the top, but from there you can enjoy the great view and even see the Skellig Islands in the distance!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 July 2024
- alabarda1973329 contributionsBetter than Moher'sAbsolutely fantastic. I think it's better than Moher's in some ways. It's worth getting out of the ring and heading for Portmagee. The cliffs rise on private land. Admission is €5 per person including parking and use of bathrooms. Of course, it could happen that the weather is not the best and you can not see the Skellig Islands but it is usually quite windy and the weather conditions change quickly. Anyway an absolute must.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 July 2024
- Sophie & PaulMontreal, Canada278 contributionsGreat Vistas For The Cliffs. After an exhilarating drive from Killarney, we ended up on the private grounds overseeing the cliffs. Everything is secure, the entry cost is very much reasonable (5 Euros per adult). There are three distinct vistas from which you can see the cliffs and they are all great vantage points. A must see !Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 September 2024
- TravelingBum10United States7,529 contributionsThis place is a mustThis was one of my favorite places to visit in Ireland. The area is massive. It’s private property so you have to pay to enter. There’s a large parking lot and there are public toilets . The walking path is all rocks so pushing a stroller or wheelchair would be hard. The views were gorgeous! Definitely worth going!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 October 2024

Well signposted with good parking. €5 admission ( for all ages) but given the overall beauty and information boards it is a very reasonable cost. The trail takes you to two viewpoints which give magnificent views over the cliffs. Longer range views back across the estuary to Valentia island. A must see visit if you are in the area. Certainly worth the detour off the usual ring of Kerry coach route. Clean toilets are also a bonus. Visit given five stars because the weather was kind to us!

A decidedly exciting experience that certainly restores the spirit. The place is accessible via an entrance ticket of €5 (full) and with a short climb you arrive at the top of a hill from which you can admire the spectacle of the Atlantic Ocean crashing on cliffs hundreds of meters high. The route is entirely protected by railings and safety nets and is suitable for any age.

Beautiful cliffs.
When we visited them unfortunately there was fog, but perhaps it added to the experience that something more mysterious and at the same time majestic.
Very large parking, you pay an entrance fee (€5 per person), but it's worth it.
Council, if you arrive before opening, a short stop at the village of Portmagee, very small, but charming.

The Most Spectacular Kerry Cliffs is what they call them and they are quite spectacular! There is a charge per person to get in, but there is a large car park, toilets, food trucks, and bird identification signs. There are 3 places to view the cliffs- right in the middle or off to either side. It is definitely a climb up a hill to go to the left and right view points, but all the views are amazing and offer slightly different angles. We spotted quite a few birds, too. We visited the Cliffs of Moher a few days later and felt the Kerry Cliffs are just as impressive and if you only have time for one cliff stop this is a great choice if you don't plan to go further north up the coast. Moher is more commercialized with the visitor's center, stairs, ramps, cart service for those with mobility issues, and more formidable walls along the cliff edge for safety (instead of railings and wire fencing). It's a different feel and the railings did allow for better viewing down than the walls at Moher. But, there were no puffins here and we did spot puffins at Moher. Absolutely worth the detour off the Ring of Kerry to view these and then you can head up to Valentia Island.

A bit off the beaten path, the Kerry Cliffs are located on private land with a small 5 euro per person fee to enter. There is free parking. It is a bit of a walk on gravel roadway to get to the cliffs with some uphill climbs to see both viewing locations. I did see a van drive closer, so maybe that is possible if your group has mobility issues. Be aware of the high winds and hold on to your hats! Go to whichever viewing area is least crowded first. It is worth going to both, as the views are different. They were very impressive and we had a nice clear day. We ended up not visiting the Cliffs of Mother, so I was glad we were able to see the Kerry Cliffs. Certainly a highlight on the Ring of Kerry.

There is a large car park, which is free and has toilets and a cabin for drinks and food. There is a small fee to go up to the cliffs but it is very much worth it. The walk up is fairly steep but easy for most, people who would struggle with the walk can arrange to be driven up the hill. At the top you can go left or right along the cliff edge - both sides present stunning views of the cliffs and sea. I would argue that these cliffs are better than Moher, certainly more dramatic and rugged. Definitely worth a stop and some time to take in the views.

We stopped in one afternoon between passing storms and we were blown away! Parking is easy and free! Plenty of space and easy to find. Small fee to enter, but along the path up there are example beehive huts to explore (or hide from the rain in, we had to), well worth the time. The path is well laid and big, there are lots of plaques to explain what you see. The views are amazing, as good as any you will find along the wild atlantic way. We had the place nearly to ourselves, we stayed for a while, and were sad to leave.

Very nice view! Also parking place, toilets, coffee and snack, little "beehive" huts to sit in and sheep and alpacas on the pasture. The view point by the cliffs is wide and the view is spectacular.
Unfortunately it was heavy wind when we got there and it was difficult even to stand up. It was safest to take photos with the camera in hands and not on a tripod because of the wind. We stayed on the lowest point and didn't even think of going higher. We were told there had been many fine sunny days just before so I guess we were a bit unlucky with the weather.
A long ago I was on the Cliffs of Moher and I think there the cliffs are more astonishing but on Kerry Cliffs the wild sea gives an exciting addition to the experience.

This place is awesome!! I would say it is more beautiful than the cliffs of moher. Well, that’s my opinion but I would highly recommend coming here to get a spectacular view of the Skelligs. We watched the sunset over the cliffs and I could say hand on heart you would find it hard to match this display of natural beauty anywhere in the world. (It was a particularly hot day) the camp site is €15 for any pitch or camper. There’s toilets on hand but no shower, running outdoor tap, electrics. It was peaceful and lovely to wake up to the sun rise over Portmagee harbour.

We loved stopping here on our trip around the Ring of Kerry. €5 each to go in, car park free and then a steady climb up to the two viewing points. Absolutely spectacular!!! Beautiful day but very windy and there are ropes in some areas which they advise you to hold onto when the winds are very high (!).
There are very presentable toilets in the car park and a food truck with hot & cold drinks, cakes and sandwiches.
Later the same week, we went to the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience - much more commercial and hordes of people. We preferred our experience in Kerry and the cliffs were just as spectacular

Between the Kerry Cliff and Kilkee Cliffs, which would have an easier or shorter walk from parking to see anything? Some in my group cannot do much walking but if that is the only way to see them, we may have to skip. Thanks
Written 30 May 2018
You are going to want to visit Kilkee if you are limited on walking. There are two really good viewing spots and one of them is in the parking lot itself and the other likely off limits to you due to a hike on uneven ground. My wife and I were rather happy for the parking lot view as it was pouring while we were there, but we could easily see the view in the car.
At the Kerry cliffs, the viewing spots require rather steep walks that were hard on my wife's ankle.

Can you walk here from the mooring's B&B?
Written 28 July 2016
Yes you can. Its a 40 min. walk one way to get to the cliffs. Just be aware that the road is very narrow and there is no sidewalk, so you have to be extra careful.
