The Munghorn Gap Reserve is one of our favorite destinations when in Mudgee, for it offers a great walk to a spot called Castle Rock. The walk in itself takes you along a very wide and relatively flat forest maintenance track until you will find a little turn right where you will face a very easy climb of a few... More

Fantastic views over the valley. Its an easy walk to the lookout once you get over the rough road. You can get there if you know what you're doing in a 2wd but an SUV or 4WD is recommended. Keep driving on to Merriwa and the Hunter Valley.

A nice easy walk in a beautiful area, the views once you arrive are amazing and when we visited we were the only ones around! A must see.

At Munghorn Gap Nature Reserve, we walked the 8 km return to Castle Rocks. The track was good enough for a vehicle and relatively flat which made for an easy walk, but it was rather uninspiring. It wasn’t until we reached the lookout point at the end, from where we could see the castle like rock formations in every direction... More

To be honest the walk to this location is somewhat long and uninspiring. I had to nearly carry my 10yo son who found himself bored by the wide tracks. There were also no amenities which was a problem. All of this however was outweighed by the view at the end of the walk. I would recommend.

I think the drizzle added to my brief stop in this beautiful place! I stood to look at the guide board under a tin room and the putter patter of rain was almost meditative. The wet leaves under my feet squeaked as I walked, not worrying about the cool wet day, but instead memorised by the solitude and silence! A... More

I was on my own in this peaceful place with only the numerous birds for company. It was peaceful and a good place fro a stop with toilet facility.

Four of us went yesterday and had the more sensational day. What a breathtaking view and just a stone's throw from Mudgee. Yes, some of it might not be faint hearted, but then you don't have to venture out beyond your ability. An absolute nature/photography lover's paradise!

Well worth a visit. Relatively easy walk, gorgeous scenery, several lovely places for a picnic. Great day trip.
