Andrew and the team pack a lot of exhibits and history into the museum and if your interested to know why Kununurra was founded in in 1961 and the history of the Order River scheme then it's definitely worth a visit. It's open each afternoon.

Dear Aligattor of the Top End, Good to see some of our 'locals' (neighbours!) visiting. A few days ago (March 2017) another 'local' lady who lives in Katherine (for many years past) brought in her <10 year old Kununurra-based Grandsons - they all loved it!...More

Now in its 75th year, the Kununurra Museum is a great spot for a visit to learn about the area and see what the history offered. The Queen visited here in 1963 so that was neat to know and the staff was very knowledgeable about...More

Thanks for the review but just to clarify - Ord Irrigation was 75 Years Old in 2016 - Kununurra was 55 years old in 2016 - The Kununurra Historical Society turned 30 years old in 2016 and the Kununurra Museum has been in operation in...More

For some excellent local knowledge and hands on displays this is a must! From a fossilised wombat, Aboriginal spear technology and the mystery of Leichhardt and the Queens visit in 1963 this museum is a little treasure trove. Don't forget to leave a donation!

I took the opportunity to pop in and look at this museum run by the local historical society. There is plenty of local information including that regarding the development of the Diversion Dam, the Queen's earlier visits and development of Kununurra in earlier times. All...More

I really admire places like this hidden gem. Staffed and created by volunteers I really appreciate good people's efforts to capture history that will be forgotten in generations to come. This is not your big city, big budget museum but if you want a good...More

I am not the museum type. To me museums usually mean seeing vague remnants of history behind glass enclosures and half told stories. Alas, the Kununurra museum sparked excitement of my list for history. I planned a visit to appease a friend and planned an...More
