Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When we got there, we were the only ones there. While we were there a few more people showed up, but not many. Worth the stop if you like castles.

As castles go, it was so-so. Still interesting, and fun to walk around. But not as intriguing as other castles I have visited. Worth a visit if you have time to waste…

Lovely little castle by the sea. Free to get in with a few information boards. Small cafe in the car park.
If you're in a campervan it's ok to park up for the night.

Amazing to see the castle perched on the edge of the water. Loved walking around the grounds, well worth a visit. There’s an adjoining old graveyard too.

Discovered this little castle by accident!! Doe castle or Caisleán na dTuath, stronghold of the clan tSuibhne.
It was open to walk around, unable to access the main tower part although it was a Sunday and not sure if it’s generally open anyway.

Beautiful Castle, but it feels lacking, it’s only a 30min to 45min walk from Creeslough main street. You can see changes of time in the building structure! Try to find the sculpted face on the Castle Entrance if you have a good eye. There’s a small cemetery just before you enter the castle, I wanted to check it out but the gates were closed :(
It’s great to visit it during the warmer months of the year, when the tide is not very high and the sun is out in the sky :)
I wish the gates to the coast were open for the general public, I understand the security concern, but I’d imagine during summer it would be a great experience to ocean bath by the castle!

We found this on our map and decided to take a break from hiking Glenveagh. This stop is well worth the drive. And when finished touring the castle, visit the coffee stand next to the parking lot and have a drink of hot coffee, tea, or chocolate. The owner is a very cordial and warm lady. We were fortunate to meet the farmer who owns the field next to the castle. A fine man with three fine sons. Another reason we love Ireland, the people are so cordial and friendly.

Stumbled upon this castle by accident really. Spotted the ruin from a viewing point and we decided to head over to it. Definitely worth the detour, a nice hidden gem tucked away which is free to visit making a very interesting stop.

Came across this castle by accident. There is a viewpoint of it when driving out of Cresslough and then you follow narrow roads up to it.
A small castle which is free to visit and makes for an interesting stop.

We are staying near Donegal and want to visit Doe Castle and Gleanveagh Park, which could be done together. We don't have a rental car and wondering what the best options for getting there for the day. Taxi, bus there and back? Private tour company? Other options. TIA

Car rental would be the best option but if that's out then you would probably be looking at a guided tour. Taxis are few and far between so I wouldn`t consider it as an option. There are some websites you could check out but TripAdvisor doesn`t allow links so I cant give them to you here. Just Google Donegal Tourism and you should be alright.
While you`re in that part of Donegal you should visit Ards Friary, Ards Peninsula overlooking Sheephaven Bay. Truly spectacular and only a few miles from Doe Castle.
Enjoy your trip, I`m sure you`ll have a great time.
are the grounds dog friendly
