Battery Hill overlooking the township of Tennant Creek is named after the original ten-head stamp battery. The 1930’s site echoes the soul and spirit of the miners. Underground Gold Mine tours are conducted regularly. Take self guided walks and meander past the historic machinery. Pay a small fee and enjoy Freedom, Fortitude and Flies; the social history museum and Minerals Museum with its superlative McLaughlin Collection. You will be surprised, they are worth every cent.

According to the fact that this is one of the few attractions in Tennant Creek we wanted to visit and get some information about the mining past of this town. We were the only visitors and the staff was more interested in their cell phone than in us. No greeting, no information, they didn't care. When we found out the... More

Dropped in here as it is the tourist information center also. The place is small and does not really provide that much information or excitement about the mining town. Not really worth the visit in my opinion.

Thanks for your review eblac. I do wonder whether you actually made it to Battery Hill or you have mistaken us for somewhere else. If you were here it is a shame you didn't take the chance to do one of our mine or stamp battery tours which are still available weekday mornings to end November, or check out the... More

We made a plan to visit this amazing place where telly disappointed to arrive 8 minutes late for a 9.30am tour to be told sorry to late. MIGHT I ADD WE WHERE THE ONLY ONES THERE We stayed for. Thank you for the opportunity to remind people that the 9:30am tour departs at........9:30am. Planes, buses boats & tours generally work to a timetable that is widely publicised, just like ours, and a late arrival usually means you miss out. 9:30 is the first public mine tour of the day, with a tight schedule. To complete the tour on time... More

We checked out the Battery Hill Mining Centre in Tennant Creek recently. It was a short walk from our caravan park and a very informative place where you can learn about the history of mining in the area. We didn’t have time to do a full tour but we will be back later in the year so we may try... More

We have completed 3 mine tours on our trip around Australia but this one is the best of The SuperPit, Tom Price and here. Being a smaller mine tour the information is logically presented by the tour guide on a personal scale. I now know much more specifics on how to mine on a smaller scale, which adds to the... More

A fascinating insight into the early days of Tennant Creek. The Battery tour was well run and the guide very knowledgeable about the mining processes. Missed the underground mine tour because we got the time wrong but will make the effort next time I pass through Tennant. There is an interesting collection of old mining equipment at the entrance of... More

We decided to go for the underground mine tour and the gold stamp battery tour. If you have time don't miss to book both. It gives you the full picture what a hard work it was in the past to squeeze some grams of gold out of this heavy stone. Our guide explained it very well and entertaining. The whole... More

We stayed at the Outback Caravan Park overnight and the next morning drove the 200m down the road to do the tour around the Battery Hill Mining & Visitor Centre. The Museum is rather small but has plenty of historical information to learn about Tennant Creek and mining in general. We also visited the Mineral Museum which was pretty spectacular.... More
