We did the audio tour of Nyinkka Nyunyu Art centre in Tennant Creek a couple of weeks ago to get our fill of the local culture while we were in the area. Some nice pieces on display but some of the technology for the audio tour was not working well and they could fill in some of the gaps of... More

Our initial visit to the centre was towards closing time so it was suggested that we visit again the next day so that we could take the $12.50 pp audio tour. Also we were told that we could meet the artist whose painting we had just purchased at that time. We did visit next day and we felt privileged to... More

Location 5/5 Right on the highway as you enter Tennant Creek. Service 3/5 I had read other reviews that said it looked like they were closed, no one was there to serve them, etc. We also got that feeling. We went in and there were some ladies painting in the back room and they told us to go through. We... More

We enjoyed the audio tour of the centre and gardens but were a little disappointed. The technology used is past its use by date and one of the exhibits was asking for a computer re-boot. The attendant apologized that we would probably run out of battery before finishing the tour! The gardens had a couple of missing displays - presumably... More

Very professional set up of displays combined with audio which can be taken at your own pace ($12.50). The tour covers approximately 26 displays across a range of topics including history of indigenous Australians, culture, bush food and remedies etc both inside the building and then also around the secure yard which includes a number of sacred sites - really... We really enjoyed this place. The art collection was fabulous and it was all displayed really well. The cafe was closed when we were there. We were the only ones there - which is a pity - as it really was a beautifully conceived and presented indigenous presentation.

After reading reviews thought this place was worthy of an investigation. It posses a great history of the aborigines of the area BUT half the displays were not working. There is supposed to be an opportunity to view aborigines doing hand crafts. None of this was taking place. You are supposed to be able to converse with aborigines but they... More

Having found that Tennant Creek is definitely worth more than a one night stay, we were very disappointed at Nyinkka Nyunyu. * We were charged $12.50 admission * The audio guides were not available - they had been sent away for repair * Unlike other experience of other reviewers, there were no personal guides there either * Some of the...
