Beautiful vista!

If you're doing a wine tour in the region, you must go to the peak of Te Mata. It is amazing and offers panoramic views of the area of Hawkes Bay. BEAUTIFUL!

We left early (8am) to make sure we didn't encounter too much traffic after reading the reviews on here. We were expecting it to be a horrible road etc and that nearly put us off going. There were a lot of walkers and people out and about. We parked up at the carpark on the left, down from the peak.... More

Visited with uk visitor. Was a lovely clear day so views right over Hawkes Bay. She found the drive up a bit daunting. A must visit to appreciate Hawkes Bays beautiful countryside

Te Mata peak is so near to the township of Havelock North, it would be a sin not to drive up there on a clear day when visiting this area. Like many roads in New Zealand, near top is a tad hair raising, but sealed all the way and well worth it as the view is absolutely amazing. Lots of... More

Absolute must for anyone being in the region. Ideally you park at the entrance of the park and walk all the way to the peak, but for families with small children or with older people it's possible to drive all the way to the top. And the view is SPECTACULAR!

This is such a lovely location and you can even drive up. There are lots of lovely walking tracks and of course brilliant views all over the Hawke's Bay. Definitely worth the drive although that is not for the faint hearted.

The drive up is risky so go very slow as cars coming the other way can sometimes be going to fast or cutting onto your side of the road. Even though the drive up is quite risky it is definitely worth it for the amazing views.

At 399 Meters high, Te Mata Peak gives you a panoramic view of the immediate area. Orchards, Wineries, Hawke Bay Sea Coastline. From here if you time it right, you will see Hang Gliders taking off and taking benefit of the air currents, provided by the hills.

Just make sure you go on a clear day! That said, it is worth the drive (or walk, or cycle) to the top as the views, in all directions, are impressive.

Scary and horrible drive to the summit on a narrow windy road with little room to pass. But, once you got there the views are breathtaking. It can be cold and blustery too but worth the drive, if you dare. Lots of walking and biking trails too.
