This is an extremely long and beautiful sandy beach. Even on a hot Sunday morning in January it was not at all crowded, and the sea was warm and calm. There is a big car park and clean toilets.

We picked a bad time as someone let the sewerage slip out into the sea and the beach was closed for swimming but that did not explain the large amount of sea weed and tree debris scattered along the beach. It was somewhat dirty and...More

Glorious beach that goes on for ever and ever. Very popular but so big it doesn’t feel particularly crowded.

Loved this beach. Was very busy when we were there (school holidays) but still plenty of room for everyone in and out of the water. Loved the ice cream carts on the way out. Water was so warm!

Nice sandy beach, the sea is pretty shallow here for a long way out, can get pretty busy during the holiday season during summer

Stopped here several times during our visit to Nelson. Lovely beach with great access. Oftentimes there were very few people on the beach.

This is a nice safe swimming beach. The tide does go a long way out at low tide. There are cafes, restaurants and pubs close by plus several motels. The beach is backed by wareslides, a zoo and trampoline park. Lots to do.

Tahunanui has been consistently voted as New Zealand’s best beach. We’ve visited loads of times, most recently on a cloudy day but the water was still beautiful. It wasn’t a really sunny day but the water was warm. Our kids aged 3 & 6 played...More

It was a decent beach - nice and warm in the shallows and lagoon area. Good for a stretch of the old legs too, if you fancy a prance - you can walk quite a long way along it. Nice views from higher up in...More

Hi , as its a predominately coastal country your trip will take you around some of the most amazing countryside but as much as it is beautiful, you might want to take a cardigan ... and a rain coat . Its winter after all !
