Did this walk twice stating from Urguhart Bay and going round by the gun emplacement (fenced off as concrete roof looks unstable) and through native forest with good views of Whangarei Harbour entrance. The a circuit round to a stony beach and then a sand beach ("Smugglers' Bay") which could be reached directly with a 15-minute walk from the Urguhart... More

As mentioned by the previous review, after 15 years of walking weekends this is one of the best, if not the best. Claire is a wonderful host who, not only is a magnificent cook, but has made sure that her guests are well provided for with a lodge that supplies everything that a group would need. The covered outside area... More

This is the fifteenth year of our group of friends' walking weekends. This would be one of the very best. The big walk was taxing but stunning scenery. The thing that set it apart from previous walks was the accomodation, food and the host. Claire has thought of everything in the lodge - from night lights to mirrors. Her cooking... More

A few of the much enjoyed aspects of our Coastal Walks break – the stunning local scenery and interesting birdlife, the outdoor bath which eased aches and pains at the end of the day and truckloads of super tasty homemade food. Claire took great care of us even producing surprise iceblocks when collecting us at the end of a long... More

Did this in 2016 and I'm still dreaming about it. The food was better than any 5 star restaurant. The views were amazing to have a beach all to yourself for miles were incredible. im not sure what was better the hike or coming back and soaking in the tub and having an amazing dinner. Finally the host went above... More

Walks were great and Claire took the time each evening to go through the next day with us. Ocean Beach is breath taking, wild and majestic. Thanks for the great weather as well.

We were a group of 2 couples who headed to Bream Bay after dire weather warnings from the NZ met service. The weather turned out to be great as well as the walks. Claire was so helpful and flexible with the walks adapting them to the times we had available. I would describe her as generous in all that she... More

What wonderful hospitality in a trully wonderful part of the world! Claire and Mark provide wonderful accommodation, amazing food and beautiful surroundings. The experience provided great walking options for various fitness levels too. Each with pretty amazing views. You might even see a Kiwi. Highly recommended.

We were a group of 10 women who have done these type of walks for 15 years and this would be one of the best! Even though weather was a challenge - torrential rain, thunder and lightening storms!- we still managed to do some of the walk. Beautiful scenery with great variety. The lodge was perfect. Claire you have thought... More
