Hi Cattai Many thanks for your enquiry regarding your future visit to Geraldton as part of your Dawn Princess Cruise. Geraldton is fortunate to have some lovely attractions right in the heart of the CBD. Most visited is probably the HMAS Sydney II Memorial which is dedicated to the 645 sailors that lost their lives in WWII. Geraldton’s Volunteer Tour Guides will be on hand during the course of the visit to do a tour. A gold coin donation is appreciated for this tour. St Francis Xavier Cathedral is another well visited attraction. The Cathedral was designed and built by Priest and Architect, Mons Hawes. The Cathedral guides will be present to do a tour of the Cathedral. There is a minimal charge for the tour as it takes in the Crypt which is normally closed to the public. WA Museum Geraldton is right on the doorstep to the Batavia Coast Marina (which is where the ships tenders will disembark). A visit to the Shipwreck Gallery will help you discover the fascinating maritime history of the State’s midwest, from the famous Batavia mutiny, to lesser known tales such as the inspiring saga of human ingenuity displayed by Zeewijk survivors and the unknown fate of other European shipwreck survivors stranded on Western Australian shores. The gallery features artefacts from four local shipwrecks including clay pipes, silver coins, cannons, the original Batavia stone portico and numerous other relics. Cattai, most of these attractions are within walking distance to the Marina, however, we would like to point out that the Memorial is located on top of Mt Scott and the hill climb does sometimes catch people off guard. There may be a Hop on Hop off bus available on the day (we will only know closer to the ship’s visit) which will do a circuit that includes these attractions as well as the Geraldton Visitor Centre. Alternatively, you might like to hire a car and self-drive to Mullewa to view Wildflowers, drive northwards to Oakabella Homestead or even south to Greenough Hamlet. If you do go down this route, we would like to stress that you would need to ask the Car Hire Company to either deliver the car to the Marina or pick you up. We hope that this information is helpful, but please view our website for more information and ideas. We look forward to welcoming you ashore.
