My friend took a guided tour of gallery and found it very informative. I had been previously to gallery approx 4 years ago and was once again impressed with the wonderful array of paintings for a regional gallery. Well laid out and easy to view. Ate lunch afterwards at cafe; food and atmosphere were a delight!!

Whilst in Ballarat we did a walk around the magnificent historic buildings and came across the Art Gallery of Ballarat. We were impressed with the displays particularly the Lindsay collection. Whilst in the gallery my wife made a purchase of a delightful broach from the gallery shop.

These provincial towns in Victoria seem to have excellent art galleries and this one in Ballarat certainly lives up to that.

Returned after a few years gap. Outstanding collection of early Australian art with plenty of masters on show - Streeton, Roberts, McCubbin, Heysen, Boyd, Dobell, Lindsay, Nolan and many others not known to me. Mind blowing and highly recommended. Also visit the superb cafe and sip your ( brunswick quality) coffee under original masterpieces. A must visit.

The gallery is free to enter and is a welcome oasis of cool after the 35 degree heat of the street. I missed the start of the free 2pm tour but did earwig bits of it and the girl sure knew her stuff. Set out in galleries according to the age of the paintings it traces Ballarat's history and that... More

One of the great regional collections of artworks resides here. This is a must see attraction as it provides visitors with insights into our history and perspectives on modern and emerging artists as well.. It Is free to enter and right in the middle of the historical and cultural precinct of Ballarat. Make a day of it and combine it... More

I'm ashamed to say how long I've lived in and around Ballarat and not visited the art Gallery, but I have now fixed that, the gallery was a pleasant surprise, it had some very good pieces in it's collection, I found my self spending a considerable time down stairs with a photo exhibition from the 70's and 80's " my... A stunning collection both in breadth and depth. We returned for a second day viewing. Staff and volunteer guides are very enthusiastic, knowledgable and friendly. The drawings by Ruby Lindsay and paintings by Percy Lindsay (less well known siblings of Norman) were a highlight. The Rennie Ellis photographs (a touring exhibition) were also an extraordinary experience; time travel catalysed by... More

The Gallery itself is lovely with a reasonably good cross section paintings and other artworks. Particularly the two Chinese Bronze Censors on the landing of the first floor. The Gallery hosts "The Archies" each year which is always fabulous. Kittelty's cafe on the ground floor of the Gallery is very much worth a visit.
