The Bunkhouse Theatre shows a quirky 40minute film about Stewart Island,...

The Bunkhouse Theatre shows a quirky 40minute film about Stewart Island, titled A LOCAL'S TAIL. A Local's Tail introduces local characters, community colour, and the struggles and triumphs of the island pioneers, both past and present. Producers, Pete Davis and Penny Golias, hope to answer the myriad of questions that holiday makers have about the 'why' and 'how' of Stewart Island, from the most reliable of all sources - the pub (or more accurately, from the yarns overheard at the pub by a local dog). The film shows everyday throughout the summer. See the board outside for daily session times.

Locally produced film On the history of Stewart Island, narrated by a local dog! Fun and very informative. A not to be missed experience on Stuart Island… Taught me a lot about my surroundings and the people of this amazing gem of the "roaring forties."

The featured movie is about 40 minutes long. It provides quite a bit of info on the history of Stewart Island, the people who have lived there, the economy and the culture. Very much worth the time and money

"A Local's Tale" . Excellent film outlining the life and times of Stewart Island with a real life dog as the usher.

The theatre is small, but the seats are comfortable and all have good views of the screen. Although they show other movies, the main attraction, I believe, is the movie "A Local's Tail." It tells the story of Stewart Island thru the eyes and voice of a dog. It's charming, amusing, and a must for anyone visiting the island!

We went to see A Dog's Tail, a film about the history of the island. It was charming and funny, and as an added bonus we met the star of the film
