See my review of Ruggedy Range Tours. That’s the way to see this amazing place. While you can go unescorted by water taxi, unless you are already an expert on NZ fauna and flora, go with someone who is. You will learn so much.

We spent a couple of hours on the island. We did most of the tracks and enjoyed seeing kaka, silver eye, robins, Tom tits and weka. The Bush is lush and primordial. Highly recommended

From the moment we stepped aboard the Ulva Island Explorer from Stewart Island to the end, we were treated like good friends. The boat staff and guides were extremely helpful. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and able to answer all questions. Highly recommended
