Despite the rough waters often associated with the Foveaux Strait, the ferry crosses with ease. Although not prone to seasickness myself, I recently crossed with someone who frequently has troubles with travel sickness, and found the crossing to be fine, despite the rough waters. Wonderful...More

The ferry service seems to be very efficient. The boat itself is comfortable and there is a small cafe on board. We were lucky that we had good crossings both ways and so the hour went quite quickly.

The Foveaux Strait is a bit shallow, and any vessel would have a bumpy ride in lively weather. Hence, I always eat after sailing across the Foveaux Strait.

The strait is one of the roughest bits of water in the world. It is a short trip but be prepared for it be be rough for about a 1/4 of the trip. Not always, sometimes it can be really nice, but when it gets...More

Another great example of what an excellent business Real Journeys is. It was clear that the trip was going to be tough- very big seas and strong winds but the boat handled it very well with a skillful skipper at the helm. Staff were fantastic...More

Do yourself a favour and travel outside on the rear deck. You'll get wet, but I'll take wet over seasick any day. That crossing is rough! The staff on the boat are exceptional. A true holiday experience in itself :-)

The hour trip to an from Stewart Island is as comfortable as the sea makes it - for us it was smooth on the way over and pretty choppy on the way back. The ferry service is well run with comfortable waiting areas, parking if...More

Plenty of parking by the ferry terminal and Bluff is a lovely safe town. You should have no problem at all.
