Overview
More
Check out the underwater inhabitants of Lake Wakatipu at Queenstown Underwater Observatory. See the diving ducks, massive trout and slinky eels just metres from the lakeshore. Conveniently located on the Main Town Pier at the lake, the Underwater Observatory offers fascinating and informative entertainment for all ages in all weather. Feeding the fish offers excitement for the fish, as well as the viewers. Two species of trout are on display - the Brown imported from Europe around 100 years ago and the Rainbow, a North American import. Scaup Ducks dive among the fish for food while the NZ Long Finned Eel gliding through the water could live up to 90 years and weigh up to 16 kilos (35lbs)! Underwater Observatory is possibly the best value attraction available in Queenstown.

Very interesting and relaxing. We only spend about 45 minutes there, but we talked about the size of the fish for the next hour

I think this is a great little attraction in the heart of Queenstown. It's quite surprising to see so many huge fish and eels so close to the shore of the lake. The diving ducks are very cute too. It's also quite calming watching the...More

Definitely overpriced but a fun outing to see the ducks and the fish underwater. If you have time it's worth it to drop by.

Underwater observatory in a lake? That's what we thought being form Queensland in Australia. Well it was very good. After days seeing the lake from above, plane, steamship, jet boat, lake edge, mountain edge and from Coronet... it was very good to see what was...More

Is good for something to see if you're in the area. Lots of trout and ducks and you can pay an additional $1 to feed them but not worth $10 to see in my opinion, small area and you won't be down there for much...More

We have 4 people as a family but have to pay only 20 dollars, the water is clear and we wait for other people to feed the fish so we don't need to pay for fish food

Recommended only if you go with free( combo with jet boat) otherwise cost dollar 10 not worth for that amount.

We did not do the jet boat so I had a coupon as a 2 for 1 offer through visitors free mag. So I had paid $5 per person instead of as a freebie. Good only if you love seein' fish and ducks. You have...More

Got a free viewing as part of kjet ticket. Can't believe they would charge more than a dollar to view this underwater area! You'll see a handful of large fish and some diving ducks but really not worth paying for.

Good only if its free and included. Do not pay separately to go there. It is ok if its part of your KJet boating ticket.
