Pan for gold

Hire a pan and try your luck at gold panning. We were lucky enough to find a few little pieces and had great fun in the process

The river is just located right beside arrowtown. It is a good place to take a stroll after walking in the town area. Not exactly a place worth Traveling to solely for it but definitely good to go by if you are already in arrowtown.

We visited and had a walk around the river banks. We were told further down stream was a film location for the Lord of the Rings, but we did not make it that far down.

A typical South Island river near Arrowtown. Struggled through parking area (crowded) due to proximity of the town. Did not explore much as time was limited. Undoubtedly as pretty as other NZ rivers, but I would say there are better sights to see in the vicinity if your time is limited

Accessible by bus and this small town offers the old town kind of stuff. Classic structures and beautiful trees around. It has the history of chinese settlement and good track for trekking. Must visit place too.

After walking around the interesting historic town of Arrowtown, we enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the water's edge of the Arrow River. This is an easy walk, starting off on one side of the river then crossing a bridge to walk back along the other side. We traveled in Oct/Nov, it was fairly quiet and we didn't meet too many... More

Grab your gold pan and seek your fortunes. Who knows, you might even pay for your trip?! Or not. Either way it's a great way to spend a few hours on a sunny day.

Near Arrowtown:a half day tour can take you to the Arrow River, one of the locations where the Ford of Bruinen was filmed. As Arwen and Frodo cross, Arwen summons a powerful flood to sweep down the river, enabling them to escape the Black Riders . The Arrow River is a tributary of the Kawarau River, to The Pillars of... Went for a short walk down the stream while spending the day in Arrowtown, water is very cold, but nice to see different landscape.
