Amazing views despite the clouds

We hiked from the Skyline Gondola, and that was still a good steep hike. I'll use this space to put out a wee bit of trail etiquette. People going uphill have the right of way. Never stop in the middle of the trail. Never play music out loud. Use headphones. You may like rap, I may like jazz, someone else... More

I did the hike in late October 2016. I was so glad the weather held up because it was raining the day before. This is a non-technical hike (provided there is no snow) and I wouldn't say challenging but you probably should be confident of your fitness level. I did the full hike so started at the very bottom outside... More

We went in summer and enjoyed a wonderful and glorious view of the water and the mountains in resplendent glory. As as seasoned walker who has done many of the more challenging trails (such as Machu Picchu), this was unusually difficult. Why? Because water erosion has made the track into a near impossible gully of loose rocks and pebbles that... More

My husband and I hiked to the Ben Lomond summit on our last day in New Zealand. We started the hike behind the gondola. It took us 1 hour to get to the saddle and another hour to get to the summit. The hike to the saddle is not too steep and after a short walk through the woods is... More

Did this hike in the morning while the uphill was mostly shaded. View from the saddle then going south was amazing; trail dicey in places. Was HOT.

The Ben Lomond hike is a gorgeous one. Definitely recommend those who are into day hikes and have a good fitness level. Not recommended to go up when there is sbow as it get icy and slippery.

We chose this as a trip where we could just walk from accomodation and doc at our own pace. For those not wanting the initial 400 m of ascent then the gondola ride is good. Although you can walk from Queenstown. The saddle is a good target spot for those that do not the more steep last hour to the... More

Thought I was going on a 2 hour walk got back 5 hours later. Walking through the forrest was wonderful as it was a warm day the shade was great. When we got to the gaps in the trees the views were beautiful. having made it to the top some of the party took off further but 2 of us... More

We went with our 5-year old daughter and she was able to hang with us! We didn't go the whole way, but the views were spectacular and we saw some wild goats up close! Not too strenuous.

This track has amazing views at the top, but it's not easy to get there. We've done many walks on our trip and consistently do them significantly faster than the posted times. The one hour sign from the saddle to the summit was the first one that took us every bit of the posted time. It was brutal! But totally... More
