Stopped here on our way into town from Christchurch. We had read about its claim to be the steepest street in the world so had to see for ourselves. Not too sure if the claim is correct but we did the tourist thing anyway and it is free so why not?

Until you stand at the bottom of Baldwin street you do not comprehend how steep this street really is. On the right hand side of the street are stairs which makes the climb a little easier. The view from the top of Baldwin street is also quite good. Make sure your car has a good park brake!

Visited the street and decided to take it on. Used the side stairs for part of the way and slope for rest. Well worth doing and it costs nothing.

We stopped at the bottom of Baldwin Street and looked up this steep road that some brave soles were endeavoring to walk to the top. Trucks are unable to go up the steep climb.I thought Seattle USA had some steep roads but nothing on this one.

This road was quite near to where we were staying so we stopped off to see it. There's not much to see to be honest though there is a board at the bottom explaining its history etc.

Just out of town but worth a visit. It was a warm day so we took our time going up but it's one to tick off the bucket list without being too extreme.

As we were staying in Dunedin CBD, we got to Baldwin St on the number 9 bus from Princes St. One way trip was approx $3.60. The bus dropped us off at the bottom of the hill. It was surreal to such a steep street. There are steps which make it easier to walk up. Well worth a visit

The world's Steepest Street allegedly. Quite a climb and very steep in parts. Only do it if you don't have knee problems as coming down puts quite a strain on your knees !

If you want to say you've been up the world's steepest street, give it a go, but it is a long pull up. The view from the top is worth it and it is good fun.

Fun place to visit and walk up the very steep street. The locals obviously enjoy the novelty, a few houses now sell drinks to visitors, good photo opportunity to get out outside and see Dunedin. This is the place they race Jaffas down the hill.
