Wizard in square

Great to sit and listen to in the shade of a warmish day. Good to see him back. He had one of his apprentices with him

After being bannished from The City for years we met THE WIZARD on his first day back.!! (On The Tram to central square where the annual Buskers week was being held. ) An amazing character who should be mayor Auckland !!

The popular Wizard is mostly found in New Regent Street, Christchurch, most days from late morning. His tall pointed wizard cap is a giveaway. Also look out for the junior wizard, or the Wizard's apprentice. New Regent Street is on the city tram line.

We were on board the tram as tourists when the Wizard and an entourage suddenly stepped on as well. He was with three other quite young wizards who he said were in training.Fascinating to see such a quirky character on a tram! He is well regarded by those who know of him although he seemed very quaint to me and... More

Ian has retired and is rarely seen. He comes out to various shows, but I think now lives in Dunedin.

Heard Ian speak at opening of 2012 Film Festival. Knowledgeable and articulate and well into his post-prime, it was great to hear him talk about his early years promoting film in Perth. Visitors cannot 'go to hear' him speak, as he is retired and attends various functions sporadically, but he's worth listening to. You may not always agree with his... More

The wizard used to be a tour de force in Christchurch. he then had some controversial years, seemed out of step with the community and sensibly retired. The recent earthquakes have seen him return to the fray but without I think a real sense of what the real people of CHCH want. His championship of things like saving the small... More

He's average, doing his thing, having his say. A good character for a laugh.

The Wizard, now in semi-retirement, Is a master with words, deliberately baiting his audience using amazing wit to embrace controversial subjects. A truly gifted speaker. But does he agree with his own arguments?
