New Zealand seems to do clock towers quite well and this one is no exception. It survived the earthquake and if you are in the area this is a nice Christchurch landmark to visit.

this monument has been a favourite of mine since childhood - great to see it up and running again - a major contributor to the wonderful Victoria Street experience

Great that the tower survived the quake, but personally not worth to loop around for. When around, do pass by.

there nothing so special but the history to it is amazing how it withstood the quake which happened in 2011. thou there were damages, after a heavy amount was spent it was reconstructed. Good for a click!

The clocktower was very damaged after the earthquake of 2010 and more after the Februari 2011 quake. Recently it has been restored to its former glory and is a well known site for Chch citisens.

Among the empty lots and construction sites of central Christchurch, the corner of Montreal and Victoria is intact and the clock tower utterly charming, a case of Gothic not being stuffy. I visited in the evening, with drizzly weather, so didn't catch a photo.

I was amazed to find this clock tower still standing when so much constructed in the same era was damaged. It is a lovely tribute to the Victorian era, beautifully constructed.

This lovely old tower is a monument to Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, originally placed on a stone base at the intersection of Manchester Street, Lichfield Streets and High Streets and moved here in 1930. Despite restoration and earthquake strengthening worth $295,000 paid for by local businesses in 1978, the 2010 earthquake caused damage which cost $700,000 to repair. It's all... More
